This hotel is a relic, its got loads of history.
The problem with it is the food. If a chef cant cook gammon & egg properly then its time to be a school dinner lady!
The staff are ok, some very friendly and the others Polish and struggle with the lingo.
I stayed here loads when on business, but I always eat out.
Try 5 degrees west (approx 10 min walk from the hotel)

Second visit to the hotel over the last few years and enjoyed this stay much more. Great balcony room overlooking the sea - very clean and comfortable. All the staff without exception were welcoming and keen to please you. Good dining and bar facilities. Leisure changing room could be updated a bit. Good location for both the beach and the town.

Stayed at hotel in early September. The Approach to the hotel and its' grounds are very impressive with lovely gardens. The hotel is situated on the sea front and offer great views. It is also handy for the town of Falmouth as it is only 5 minutes walk. The reception staff are very effiicient and the public rooms are very clean and comfortable. The bedrooms are also of a good quality and size. What lets the hotel down though is the restaurant which serves some of the worst food I have ever tasted in a hotel. The brochure suggests gourmet food is available plus a more simple menu but this is just rubbish as you are stuck with a very limited table d'hote menu with such delights as tagliatelle verde with a great slab of stilton dropped on top of it, horrible. There is also a lack of staff in the restaurant so you end up waiting a long time for the food.

We just spent 4 nights at the Falmouth Hotel and had a nice time - helped by some rare sunshine in this dull grey British summer we're having.
The hotel is looking a little jaded these days although it is easy to imagine it was a fabulous place in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Right now it could do with a major refurbishment. The stair carpet was threadbare on some edges and held together with gaffer tape in several sections. It also had treads made for when people had size 3 of less feet I think! I'm size 5 (UK, 7 in US, 37 Eur) and found them a little precarious. In the pool area several of the ceiling tiles were hanging down loose and one didn't want to look too closely as it wasn't the cleanest of places. We passed rooms in different parts of the hotels which were piled high with items likes beds and wardrobes - all added to the shabby feel. One room like this is even visible from the outside as one views the hotel.
Our room had a 'No Smoking' sign on the door presumably meaning it was designated as such well before the recent UK wide non smoking law passed in hotels. However, despite this the room smelled badly of smoke - enough to affect my asthma. With hindsight we should have asked to switch room but we were so taken with our wonderful seaview that we deciced to stick with it and leave the window open but even after 4 nights the smoke lingered - it was obviously deep in the furnishings.
Having said all that we had a lovely time - the location is excellent - only 5-10 minutes walks from the town centre where we found some excellent restuarants of very high standard.
We only ate breakfast at the hotel which was fine. The dining room was extremely hot and airless though and we cut breakfast short most mornings as we needed to get air and cool down. There didn't seem to be many opening windows and certainly no air conditioning.
The staff were all very helpful and friendly. The cat was lovely too!! All in all we'd go back again but make sure we got a less smoky room next time. And also a seaview one as that made all the difference.
