I was taken here as a surprise for my birthday. We wanted somewhere that we were able to take our 4 month old puppy in a relaxing setting and Powder Mills fitted the description perfectly.
The staff were friendly, courteous and helpful at all times - even calling to check if our puppy needed anything special. The drive into the grounds is very impressive with a beautiful lake setting in front of the main entrance to the hotel. Lovely summer flowers were in bloom and the water fowl wandered freely.
Our room was upstairs in the main house. The room itself was fairly small, and was a little worn in places - but comfortable and the facilities were good. The bathroom appeared new - being small, the step into the bath was awkward, but otherwise it was nicely done. The best feature of the room was the patio doors opening onto a terrace looking over the wonderful 7 acre lake. We met a few other people walking their dogs, and a few of the wedding party in residence wandered up for photos, but otherwise it felt as we had it all to ourselves. It also provided a great walk to take our own dog.
.
Dinner in the Orangery was very nice, but perhaps a little overpriced - especially as service was very mixed - taking plates away before both of us were finished, but not topping up water.- small things but at ?30 per head for 2 courses we expected a little better. However, we were given a discount when we mentioned this. The home made breads were very good, and the setting was lovely.
Breakfast was included in our rate. It had a good selection and was of nice quality. This was also served in the Orangery.
Overall, the PowderMills is a real treat for a weekend away with the dogs. I'd happily stay here again.

We spent a very few hours here during our wedding night and returned 5 years later for a charming romantic weekend getaway. The Orangery Restaurant has a very good menu although my wife found her starter a bit odd. Although some repairs are clearly needed here and there, it still feels luxurious without being stuff and although it feels really isolated, teh location is fantastic for sightseeing (Battle Abbey, Bodium, Hurstmonseux, and Northiam castles the towns of Rye, Battle, Eastbourne and Hastings if you really need to and Camber sands).
The lounge and library are both very homey and relaxed. Brian, at the bar, was an absolute delight.
Our room could have been bigger (certainly, it was much smaller than the lovely suit we had on our wedding night) but was adequate and the views of the local country were very peaceful and calming (especially waking up on a work day!).

I spent two nights here for a friends' wedding. The hotel itself is a little on the old fashioned side but the grounds and the staff were great. It was a perfect venue for an intimate wedding. I stayed one night in the main hotel and one night in the newer extension - both rooms were very small for the price (about £130 a night) and although I am able bodied myself I would advise people who are not to check with the receptionist about what the bathroom will be like as in the second room I stayed in I had to clamber over the strangely very high and wide bath edge to get into the shower.
Breakfasts were good, and for £2.50 extra pp you can have it in your room.
If I were to stay in the area again I would perhaps look at the rest of Battle for an alternative.

We didn’t stay at this hotel, but attended a family wedding here.
The hotel is set in a beautiful location, the garden and small lake are very picturesque.
The wedding is a lovely location for a wedding, the ceremony room was very nice, bright and romantic.
The food was very good, and the restaurant was comfortable and had a very nice atmosphere. The waiting staff were good and ensured their was a steady stream to the main course buffet, so it wasn’t a bum fight for the food.
The area where the reception was held was very big, with a well stocked bar, though the staff could have smiled just a little bit.
We decided not to stay here because it was quite expensive, but were told that the rooms were very nice.
