Mr Smith and I spent the weekend here to attend a friend's wedding in Cambridge. We stayed in a "Felix Premier" room for which the advertised price is ?225 per night - thankfully we did not pay this rather high price tag having booked via an independent website.
First impressions of the hotel were positive, it is situated away from the centre of town on Huntingdon Road and although slightly too far to walk, it is an easy bus or cab journey. The hotel itself is a mixture of modern and old styles, the original house has been extended and for the most part this has been tastefully done. Reception staff are competent and reasonably efficient.
Our room was on the first floor, we loved the king size bed but agree with a previous reviewer who mentioned that the lighting was not very good. In particular the lighting in the bathroom was inadequate given that the windows were tiny "porthole" style windows. This could be rectified by simply adding some lights around the mirror. The room was large with plenty of wardrobe space, but compared to some (cheaper) hotels we have stayed in, nothing special and certainly not deserving of its ?225 price tag.
Housekeeping was mediocre - the two small glasses provided in the bathroom which we used while cleaning our teeth were not cleaned or replaced, despite having toothpaste stains on them. The bed was straightened rather than actually made, and the pillows weren't plumped up. I have no doubt the room was cleaned but it gave every impression of having been done in a rather haphazard way without much care or attention to detail.
Our room was inclusive of continental breakfast which was adequate - a tip for improvement would be to add some fresh seasonal fruit - strawberries, blueberries in addition to the standard fruitbowl. Coming back to the value for money point, we thought it was rather cheeky (especially if one were paying the full room rate) to have only continental breakfast included. Simple breakfasts like poached eggs, nevermind the full English, were priced individually on the menu and not included in the room rate. That said some things were done well - the toast was fresh granary bread and the preserves were tasty and unusual - thick cut marmalade was particularly good.
My overall impression of this hotel was that it is not good value for money - despite the fact that Mr Smith and I prefer to support privately owned boutique hotels where possible, if we returned we would probably stay at the Premier Inn across the road. At least there I imagine you would get what you pay for. Its a shame because Hotel Felix has great potential to be a real gem - sadly this potential is not realised.

We recently stayed at the hotel felix and found the experience to be wonderful. The room was in the old part of the building and was big, with a bath and double shower and lovely little balcony (although you had to climb through the sash windows to get to it!) They said they'd serve breakfast on the balcony but we chose to have it in the restaurant-i recommend the museli! We ate at the restaurant-food, wine, ambience were perfect although the staff were not so attentive. I recommend you book a table as we waited in the bar for a while for the table even though there were many free! All in all i'd say the best place we've stayed in Cambridge.

This hotel is fantastic! Beautiful, luxurious rooms - amazing bathrooms and the included continental breakfast was great. It is a 20 minute walk to the city centre, but there are plenty of buses and the walk was fine anyway.

I have to say this is a truly remarkable hotel, with all of the chic and glamour of a modern hotel, but presented in such a contemporary style, its balance of ambience was delightful. On entering there is no doubt you are inside a four star hotel, with staff efficient, presentable, courteous and remarkably attentive in that they appear on-hand just at the moment you need them, yet somehow always absent when you don’t.
We decided to go for the Penthouse suite which accessible through a private staircase, you have a spacious, well equipped room and stunning bathroom. The room itself had an extremely comfortable and large bed, two massive armchairs, and large working area. The bathroom is excessive in its offering with a bath for two, a large walk in shower for two and his and hers sinks. A large terrace is also uniquely provided, though access is via the sash windows so I would consider this an optional design extra, in that not all people may be able to take advantage of it.
In dining at the Graffiti restaurant, it was again evident that this was no ordinary hotel. Stunning artwork adorns the walls, the room softened in light by candles on each of the tables, and the tables themselves laid out spaciously so the dining experience feels more personal than communal. Pre dinner drinks where served while we selected from the menu, and in perfect timing at exactly our meal time of 19:45 we were shown to our table, where our selected wine was then masterfully served, and the starters delivered. The food was stunning, superbly sourced, well presented, and tasted exceptional.
As many others have commented, this hotel is often compared with the Hotel Du Vin. Having now stayed at both hotels, I have to say the ambience, decor, quality of food, and foremost their carefully selected attentive and professional staff, makes a stay at this hotel far superior. A stay here is truly memorable.
