The Hotel:
The hotel was lovely but poor value compared to other hotels in Vietnam.
Spa and salon was nice but hard to get an appointment.
One of the reception staff was snobby (maybe I mis understood him)?.
The bar in the lobby was riduculously expensive compared to outside the hotel.
Outside the Hotel:
There are some nice restaurants near the hotel - opposite the Sofitel.
I loved Hanoi. The old quarter is very interesting. In the French quarter some of the streets look like Paris (but much better weather!).
Great vegetarian restaurant (called The Tamarind) in Hanoi on Pho Ma May.
Go to see the Puppet show. Only ?3 per ticket for good seats.
Great art galleries in the old quarter - so cheap compared to Camden etc. I wish I had bought more paintings.

Just returned with my family of five from a week's stay at the Hilton Hanoi. A decent property though like the previous reviewer mentioned, the dated looking TV stood out like a sore thumb. Anyway, we were suppose to be in Hanoi for a holiday and not for its TV programmes right?
Staff are polite and efficient in dealing with all our requests. The service style and standard is typical of a business hotel. Though it can be a little warmer, what is more important for us is that things work.
The location of the hotel is superb and a short drive to most attractions. The hotel's use of Hanoi Taxi helps in screening out those who would overcharge you or manipulate with their meters.
I would recommend this hotel for first time visitors to Hanoi.

Hotel was very nice. Service, restaurants, spa and business lounge were all terrific. Not in love with the hard beds, but seems to be a standard in Asia.

I recently stayed at Hilton Hanoi Opera & cannot tell you what an amazing Hotel it is. The staff are the friendliest I have ever encountered. We went to Sofitel Metropole to have a look around and had a drink and cannot tell you how rude they were. We also had a dinner at Intercontinental and what can you say about a Hotel built over the most disgusting polluted lake that had a horrible stench. If you happen to go, remember your repellant because the place if full of misquotes.
I would definitely recommend Hilton, they helped us book our tours to Halong Bay & gave us great advice of where to go shopping. If we go back to Hanoi, we will definitely stay with Hilton.
