Do not be

Locals do not often write reviews on TripAdivor. However this time I chose to make an exception and to write a just a few words about Hotel Kalastajatorppa.
Even though this place is nowadays Hilton it does not guarantee anything. Hotel Kalastajatorppa is located in an upscale suburb of Helsinki. It once was the best hotel in town - in the the 70's. But times have changed. And despite of their rather nice rooms is's just one of the good hotels in town - with a huge negative of being very far from the center. You can get to the center on town by tram (number 4) - but it's easily some 30 minutes trip. Taxis of course are available at around 20 -30 EUR cost.
If I were you I would choose Scandic Marski, Scandic Simonkentta, Sokos Hotel Aleksanteri, Sokos Hotel Vaakuna, Sokos Hotel Torni - or the Kamp Hotel or Kamp Glo. As well
Klaus K (http://www.klauskhotel.com) is equally centrally located. Helsinki is a small town and I would not like to be tucked away in Kalastajatorppa which is located so far away from the center with no added benefits.
I do not agree with the majority (again). Kalastajatorppa would not get remarks from me and this is only to its remote locatation - it's standing alone on the seafront without any other facilities than what are provided by the hotel.
Perfect Hotel

This is one of my favorite Helsinki hotels. If you don't mind not being in the city center - this is the best.
It's mod; cool decor; great beds; great linens; right on the water -- which is cool in the winter, and summer too. There is a little pool (too small for exercising in my opinion; but there is a gym as well).
The hotel is two different buildings. One is close the to sea, and has the nice views into the water. The other is higher up -- still views, but more forest. If you are on a pleasure trip, see if you can arrange a sea view. There is a tunnel that connects them so you don't have to brave the cold in the winter :-)
The service is perfect -- so helpful, professional, friendly. The food is quite good, the breakfast is great.
There is a tram stop right there that goes right downtown. The hotel is out of the way -- great quiet location, but not central.
Great hotel

Located a little bit out of town but on the tram 4 route this is a great spot with views over the water if you have a room in the seaside wing. Rooms were very nice, very contemporary and very comfortable. We got a great deal on the weekend but I believe it is a lot more expensive during the week.

Gorgeous Scandinavian hotel, just the right size & architecture. Fab location, if you don't mind taking the very convenient tram to the city, like we did. It is in the quieter side of town . Rooms & bathrooms -very modern & room clean & more than comfortable. The staff were helpful, polite & efficient. We brought their attention, one morning to a light fitting that had come apart in the pool area & when we got back that evening, it was repaired. Spa & pool area lovely. Separate sauna's for men & women - all included in the cost. It is a pity that the breakfast (very adequate) was not included in the cost of the room. The restaurant was a lovely experience! Finnish people & service are so incredibly friendly & warm, that you will want to stay! Almost every shop assistant I met had the time & patience to talk to you about their culture & answer any questions I had - a far cry from home I hear you say !

This is a nice hotel with some nice little amenities, the heated tile floor in the bathroom is great, and it’s clean, fair location and decent food. So here's the interesting thing about the hotel restaurant, I kept ordering some of the higher end entrees hoping for a really nice meal, they tended to be fairly average quality but very high price, all the while I kept smelling this great smell and seeing there "house" hamburgers go by. So I finally decided to try one and it was one of the better burgers I have had and it was cheap! The hotel restaurant does have a nice view of that lake that is great a sunset. The bad part is there isn't any other restaurants within walking distance so your pretty much stuck with the hotel restaurant unless you drive or take the tram. The morning breakfast buffet was average, I highly recommend ordering off their short menu, I ordered poached eggs and pancakes and found them to be quite nice in comparison to the buffet. It had a pretty basic fitness room, sufficient, but just that. Pretty nice pool and sauna. Expensive internet access, what century are we in?????? Overall it's certainly not a bad choice, just a few tidbits for your planning.
Best,
~Lance
