Don't Expect Dubai 5* standards but I don't regret staying there

We stayed at the Hilton Waterfalls in July on an all inclusive package for two weeks (just returned on monday this week 21st July 08).
The hotel is graded a 5 * resort and is a large complex which is well maintained and with a number of pools and a beach front aspect.
Our room was a junior suite (room 2222) which had a great unrestricted view of the red sea being only 50 yards back from the beach.
The junior suite has a main lounge area with a small sink and units (no cooking facilities) and a large plasma television and three piece suite. A balcony off the lounge with great views of the red sea there as well.
The bedroom had another balcony, a smaller television and a door through to a walk in wardrobe (with a safe) through which was the bathroom.
The room specifiication was quite good but as I mentioned earlier this does not compare to the 5* rating that exists in Dubai hotels. Having said that, the room is fine without being exceptional. Fixtures and fittings are good but not great so don't expect the marble everywhere finish you get in Dubai.
The complex itself is huge and built on a hillside with the reception building at the top with quite a slope down to the beach front buildings and beach itself. The hilton have constructed a venicular rail system which avoids you having to walk up and down steep stairs every day in the searing heat so the slope is not a problem.!
Due to the size of the complex there are a number of pools available. The main pool is salt water (which i didn't like) but there are a number of other pools around and one nice large adults only pool near reception with a pool bar called chillax.
There are many other bars available and a number of restaurants including the main dining hall serving buffet food (and limited fresh pasta/stir fry dishes), an italian restaurant called verdies, a lebanese restaurant and a seafood restaurant all which are reasonably priced (main courses between ?6 to ?20).
The all inclusive package is much more restricted than i had anticipated. Where we have stayed before you were able to eat in the main dining hall, drink from any bar and eat in the a la carte restaurants ( on a special menu) at least once a week for each restaurant. However, in the Hilton you can only ever eat in the main dining hall who's food is fine but not a fine dining experience! if you do choose to eat in the restaurants then you get 25 egyptian pounds each discount (about ?2.50) which will not even cover your starter.
Another problem is the restriction on which bars you can order from. The pools bars were not available on the all inclusive package therefore when you wanted drinks by the pool you had to put your t shirt on and go inside. Not a great distance but still an unecessary pain in the backside from my point of view. We ended up taking bottles of water to the pool with us to avoid this.
lastly, the main problem with the drinks was the fact that the all inclusive package only includes local spirits. Egypt doesn't appear to have a thriving alcohol industry (due to the religious laws) and therefore the local spirits are actually awful... and I mean... awful. I usually drink G & T's but their gin tasted more like vodka. The local wine is passable but also rubbish. I ended up drinking Vodka and Coke most of the time as that was ok although the local beer Stella (no not that Stella.. but the Egyptian one) is not that bad at all (if you find a cold one). Be warned though, without a mixer (and therefore the fluids) the beer can give you a real headache in the morning as you get dehydrated in the heat!
Off the beach there is a good quality reef so for those who want to snorkle and dive then this is a good choice for that with a dive hut right next to the beach and the guys in there are really laid back and friendly.
Narma bay is only a cheap taxi ride away (loads of taxis available) and it only costs about 35-40 pounds (?4) each way to get there. Narma bay is very busy and has some great bars/restaurants and clubs for a night out (although I definately wouldn't stay there). I liked the distance from narma bay as you could go there for a night out without being exposed to the Blackpoolness of it everyday.
So... in summary, I thought the hotel, gardens and facilities were good without being great. The all inclusive package is restrictive and therefore if there is a massive difference in cost between all inclusive and B&B I would probably stay B&B and dine out at local restarants (which are cheap and good). If its only 100 -150 quid or so difference then it is still worth it despite the awful spirits... just put more coke in.
Hope this helps... Greg

I've just returned from a week at this hotel, and in writing this report I've read the last twenty or so most recent to get a feel of people's views. Generally they are all in agreement, the main points being that although nomonally this is a five star Hilton it is clearly the least imprerssive of the four in the Sharm area. For five stars read four, and the food well it is no more than a three, possibly only a two (if you go all inclusive). However the food in the "private" retaurants within the hotel which are not available to you on an AI package is excellent and relatively inexpensive.
On arrival the first thing you notice is that the illuminated sign isn't working properly and reads in large letters Hilton "water" hotel. There are many other indications that not much has been spent on fabric maintenace, for instance the pools although spotless and enormous had many tiles missing, and quite dangerously a filter where the water is withdrawn to be recirculated. The shuttle lift broke time and time again but on each occasion was fixed fairly quickly.
The room we had (2209) was sea facing ("an upgrade" as the hotel was quite quiet) and everything was fine but tired, the bath was chipped, had been overpainted and was peeling, and the tiling must have been applied by a blind man with a hangover!
The air-conditioning was fabulous and did the job. The twin beds probaly four feet wide with a nice firm matress.
The coral reef at the foot of the hotel, off a floating pontoon, is probably better than most of those in the Ras Mohammed, and met all my expectations. I saw a free swimming Moray eel and Baracuda, and the day before a whale shark was just yards off-shore. How cool is that. There are fish there of all colours by the thousand and water clarity is excellent.
The staff are fabulous, As there is a service charge applied to everything there was no expectations of a further tip, although the man who cleaned the room did a great job and was left a small gratuity. Question Do the staff receive the service charges (tips) ............doubtful.
A couple of other points avoid Naam bay at all costs it is like hell and you are constantly pestered to come into shops even though any conversation was usually pre-empted by " I only want to talk"!! yeah right!! Shop after shop of Hooka pipes, and other tourist tat. Incidentally at the Airport there were signs saying you could not take Hookas out of Egypt (why? they are modern and the tobacco you smoke is regular tobacco flavoured with things like cherry or orange)
Finally there is one fish restaurant within the gates of the Old Market, next to a wet fish shop (I suspect it is all part of the same buisiness) that is fabulous cheap and chaotic. It is I think the only restaurant within the gates and is well worth seeking out.

I have just returned from a relaxing break at the Hilton Waterfalls.
Can't really fault any aspect of my stay.
The Hotel is in a great location away from the bustle of Narma Bay but close enough if you wish to experience it.
Small clean beach with decent snorkling
The rooms are large and comfortable. We stayed on a B&B basisand found plenty restraunts close in the near vicinity.
Staff at the Hotel were attentive and very friendly and helpful.
Mohamed at tha Chlllax pool was a gem .
I would not hesitate to recommend the Hotel to friends and family
Charged for fun

Upon arrival to Egypt I was greeted with swarms of people clawing to do you a favor, give you information, or take you in their taxi in order to get a tip or charge you. I had hoped this spirit of charging would stop at the Hilton resort. While the staff did not ask or expect tips, there were charges on most all activities outside the animation schedule. To sit in the steamroom, jacuzzi or sauna, you have to pay six euros either per day or per hour. To use the gym you have to pay twelve euros a day. To play ping pong, tennis, soccer or volleyball, you have to pay. A resort that is full of people, with the potential of having fun activities happening all around throughout the day, is trumped by the tax on fun. The free parts of the resort are the pools and access to the sea.
The sea was great. We snorkeled off the pier and played cards on the lawn chairs. We avoided eating at the dinner buffet because it was way overpriced for the area. You can walk down the street, past the mall that has starbucks and find a good restaurant. Also, there are restaurants in that mall that are less than the buffet. Room service isn't expensive and is good. The oriental noodles were decent as well as the pizzas.
In Nama Bay there is great Lebanese food (Egyptian food) above the hard rock cafe. We ate there twice and both times it was great.. the Fetta dish is really good.
If you are going to take excursions, avoid the trip to Mt. Moses (Mt. Sinai) unless you are ready for a serious mountain climb.. or rent a camel. But my husband did not because the guy that sold it to us in the Hotel mall, told us it was included, so we didnt bring enough money for two. It was a 3 and a half hour walk up a mountain in the middle of the night. Not the most pleasant thing to do when you are sold something totally different.
BEWARE of people selling you trips. We went through DREAMS in the mall, and were sold a trip promising to be relaxing, warm with a camel ride. It ended up being freezing cold, when we were told to dress for very hot weather. We had to rent blankets on the mountain (they obviously knew people came unprepared) We were told we didnt need to bring money, as everything was included. I had to rent a camel for fifteen euros. The breakfast was barely edible at a rundown hotel near the mountain, and you had to buy drinks.
I would recommend avoiding Dreams Entertainment in the mall. However the trip by plane to Cairo was good through them.. dont trust what they say about the trip. In the lobby there were books for other companies.
The Cleo Park is really fun and inexpensive. I definitely recommend going. They have plates of freshly cut watermelon you can buy that are great. This was definitely worth it.
All and all the trip was fun.. I just thought I would warn you of the few disappointments we ran into. I was very happy to return home after 10 days in Hilton Waterfalls Sharm.. but Im glad to have went.

My partner and i have just got back from a weeks holiday at the hilton waterfalls hotel, we enjoyed it very much!!
First impressions of the hotel are very good the moment you get there the views are amazing, from the top of the hotel you can look down across the waterfalls, the swimming pools and on to the sea.
Our room was very nice all air conditioned, cleaned regularly and we even a tortoise made out of one of our beach towels which i think was cute!
During our stay we spent most of the time at the chillax pool which was a no children pool, it was very clean up here with cushioned sunbeds, hammocks and a in pool bar with our sunbeds saved for us everyday hehehe. We spent a couple of days at the main pool howver the sunbeds were not as nice and the pools were salt water swimming pools which werent to our preference.
I would def reccomend you to go snorkelling off of the jettys as we saw many a big fish more here than we did going on a glass bottom boat! Whilst we were there it also look like they are in the process of extending the beach.
We stayed bed and breakfast which i think was a good choice, at breakfast there was good variety of things to choose from i especially like the fresh made omlettes and the hot waffles!!
If you were to go to half/full board you will be eating in the same area 3 times a day, which i personally would not like. There are other resturaunts on the complex italian, seafood, lebanese and mexican which were all yummy howver i dont think they are included if you are full board but you get a discount.
Any questions i ll be happy to answer, overall i think one of the best places i have stayed!!
