Contrary to what another reviewer wrote, this is not yet another faceless, charmless Hilton Hotel. It is the service, the efficiency and the friendliness of the staff that set the Hilton in Dresden apart. I celebrated my birthday there a few weeks ago and they went out of their way to make me feel special.
The location is superb, right in the heart of the old town and in walking distance of the new town. The rooms and beds are comfortable with nice cosy German duvets (stayed on the 5th Executive Floor). One niggle I did have was that the aircon unit didn't work all that well - but as it wasn't particularly hot, I did not mind at the time. In summer, it would have been different. Make that 2 niggles - internet connection costs are exorbitant, but apparently they are in the process of switching providers.
The amenities are great. The gym had more equipment than expected and the pool/jacuzzi looked lovely, although I didn't make use of them. Breakfast wasn't cheap (15 Euros a head for the cold option) but the spread was fantastic and if you ate late and leisurely enough, there was certainly no need/space for lunch. The restaurants were all very good as well, also on the pricey side, but no more expensive than other similar restaurants.
If the Dresden Hilton is within your budget, stay here. I have never before stayed in a hotel where every single person who worked there had a smile on their face - how refreshing is that?!

We spent two night here during a month long trip to Central Europe. It was very tricky to find from the train station with luggage, partly because the front entrance was obscured by construction. Once we managed to locate the place, it was smooth sailing--got ungraded to an executive floor due to all of the soulless Hiltons I have stayed in on business trips. You can't beat the location, right in the pedestrian only core of the city. We never even had to figure out how to use the tram system, though it certainly looks modern and efficient. The breakfast buffet is standard chain hotel fare, and too pricey for what you end up eating.
Not much in the way of charm here, but everything worked, everything was clean and comfortable, and you are steps from most everything you will want to see in Dresden.

Second visit to the Hilton in Dresden. We took the mother-in-law in July as well.
We love the central location, friendly staff , good restaurants (especially the Dampfschiff) and the leisure facilities.
We spent 6 nights over Christmas and had a magical stay. the Christmas markets are wonderful, the "gluhwein" flows and the sausages legendary. It's not a german Christmas without standing in the freezing cold with a mug of the hot mulled wine and a sausage dripping with mustard. We went to the opera to see the "Nutcracker" ballet and we could dash from the hotel in our fine clothes without having to get a taxi.
Best bit - sat in the outdoor jacuzzi in the evening watching the stars (I was offered a glass of sparkling wine by a member of staff but would have fallen asleep rather than being able to go to a concert in the church - so had to pass)
Will be staying again, got a good deal including breakfast by booking a month ahead.

Perfect Location in Dresden

My daughter and I recently spent one night at the Dresden Hilton. We chose it on the basis of location and were not disappointed. We didn't have a lot of time to explore the city, and the hotel's location allowed us to be out sightseeing and shopping virtually the entire day, with frequent short stops at the room to drop off bags, adjust clothing choices, etc. Our room was very comfortable, and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The only reason I have not given this hotel a "5" is because it is large and impersonal in style. A modern building with long corridors of cookie-cutter rooms. It seems to me that the hotel ought to at least change its ugly marquee-like entrance, which sticks out like a sore thumb amidst the surrounding splendor. Dresden in December is amazing. The street decor, Christmas markets, street musicians and just general festiveness of the city's residents are fabulous, and we were lucky to stumble upon a vespers service -- with boys choir and organ -- at the Kreuzkirche. Magical.
