I was in College Station for a conference, and there was a big sports tournament going on at the same time, so this was the only hotel that had any rooms available. It didn't look so bad on the website, but I was shocked when I arrived. First of all, there is no lobby to speak of. The check-in area looks more like what you would expect for a "no-tell motel." Then, for $115, I got the "deluxe" room. What that means, I don't know, as I was directed to a row of rooms at the very back of the parking lot, backing up to a chain-link fence behind a warehouse. The paint on the building was cracked and peeling, the room itself had a musty smell, and I didn't want to touch anything. Many of the lights in the room, and the tv, didn't work. The beds were old and the sheets were yellowed. I slept with a light on b/c I was worried about cockroaches taking over the room at night. The walls were so thin that I could hear everything said by a bunch of teenage girls next door. I would rather stay in a hotel out of town then stay in this one again.

Great reception by front desk personnel. Room clean & well equipped. Good Mattresses. Close to shopping...but so close to Hwy 10 that noise was a problem all night.Had problem with Wi-fi connecting to my laptop that runs OS-Me with pcmcia card-could not connect anywhere in the the complex-used business centre pc.
Problem has to be with their router set up as all other 11 stops this month was able to connect somehow.Visited Days Inn a block away and connected from the parking lot..........
Free breakfast was adequate. BUt the great hot tub and pool made up for this small inconvenience, and the hwy noise.

I had to be moved two different times to another room. The toilet didn't flush, the room smelled bad, the bathtub in the second room didn't hold water. The lady at the front the evening I checked in was helping out - she even said she told her employer not to put her there unless it was an emergency. She was very nice and you could tell she knew that the customer is supposed to come first. The third room was better. The next morning after I went to get coffee; my room key wouldn't work after three or four tries. I went to the front desk only to be greeted (yeah right) by the person who usually works there. I told her my key didn't work - while she was getting me another key I told her about the problems with the other rooms. She proceeded to tell me that the toilet was fine - they just needed to do something ( I'm not sure what she said) and the bathtub in the second room did hold water - we just have to jiggle the stopper. I tried that myself and so did the lady that helped me the night before. This lady didn't say "sorry for your troubles" or anything. Don't stay here - It's a scary place with scary people that work there.

Good news: I'm thankful we had a place to stay given the crowded football weekend. Air conditioner worked. Breakfast was as one would expect for a continental breakfast. Bad news: Bed frame was in disrepair. Towels were not replaced before our second night. In the future, I plan to make reservations a lot further in advance for hotels that are closer to the Texas A&M campus and which offer service that reflect the price. I would only use the Howard Johnson Express in College Station if I'm desperate.

Stayed two nights for a seminar at the University. When I went to the room, the windows were opened and the room was very humid. The bathroom floors were dingy. There was no alarm clock. The refrigator was turned off. The AC unit in the room constantely kicked on and off throughout the night, you could not set the AC unit to stay on to help drown out the background noise from Highway 6. Kept me up all night. When I came in the second night, the keys would not work. I went to the front desk to get new keys and the clerk gave me two new keys without ever checking an ID to see if that was really my room. Got in the room to find the AC off again and a very hot room. Did not sleep the second night for the highway traffic and the AC unit constantly kicking on and off. First and last time to stay at a Howard Johnson.
