Nice hotel--bit of an irritation during pool construction.

We booked our stay months in advance. We called a month in advance to make sure our room was still available, and they informed us that their kiddie pool was being completely renovated. This vacation we were taking was going to Disneyland, with our 2 small kids, and no kiddie pool would be available? This was a problem. They, however, did lower our room price down to $100, and after checking a bunch of hotels with no vacancies, we decided to stay with HOJO. We arrived and were checked in within minutes, THANK GOD, after traveling with our 2 kids for hours and being up since 2 AM, this was appreciated. We immediately launched over to the Mimi's, which was AMAZING! I don't know if we were just starving, but we were VERY happy with this restaurant that is just across the street. Prices were very good too. Upon walking to Disney after Mimi's, we past by McDonalds which would also come in handy during our stay. The walk is no longer than 10 min to Disney which was great. AND you could see the fireworks during the walk home too.
The hotel itself was outdated and I was a bit disenchanted with it when we did arrive, but our room was one of the remodeled ones with AWESOME beds with feather mattresses and comforters with GREAT pillows. The craftsmanship of their remodel, however, is not top notch, but updated nonetheless.
With the kiddie pool being remodeled, which will be GREAT when they are done, we were left with the 1 pool for the entire hotel which did get crowded and quite frankly, the pool was freezing and my daughter wouldn't even go in it! This coldness of the pool is my biggest complaint.
Stay here, you won't be disappointed, especially when their new kiddie pool area is finished...

We travel to California almost annually and usually stay at least one night at Disneyland. A few years ago, we were trying to save a little money and decided to stay at the Howard Johnsons instead of staying at a Disney property. This Howard Johnsons was unlike any other I've seen or stayed it. The rooms were very nice, clean, modern and roomy. The location was fantastic - just a short walk to Disneyland. Since that first visit we have returned here and have never been disappointed. One tip, you should try to get a room that faces Disneyland. Not only does it give you a view of the fireworks, but it cuts down on road noise. It's worth the little extra they charge.

We have stayed at this hotel many times and have always had a good experience. It is clean and very reasonably priced. It is also a comfortable walk to the parks. A little long at the end of the day with tired children, but walking anywhere after a day of walking at disneyland is far! We stayed over the 4th of July weekend and were very pleasantly surprised when the new pirate ship water park that they added was opened on the 4th! This was a great surprise, because we were under the impression that it wouldn't open until the end of July. Our two boys enjoyed it so much that they would ask to leave Disneyland to go play at the water park! Other than the Disney hotels, the Howard Johnson is our favorite of all the hotels in Anaheim.

This hotel was perfect for our family of four (2 adults and 2 five-year olds) for four nights. This is not a fancy hotel and nor did we expect that for the price we paid. It was exactly what we were looking for: clean, comfortable, excellent service, a room with two double beds was a good size for us, the mini fridge in the room was handy, the pool was nice (just, too deep for our five year olds to play on their own- we needed to be in the pool with them), and surprisingly the room was quiet (we could hear the highway which was a hum - but did not hear anyone else in the rest of the hotel). Plus, the hotel is conveniently located, only an 8 minute walk to Disneyland's entrance. And, the parking at the hotel was free. We will return to this hotel when we go to Disneyland again.
If you'd like to see our newly developed minimal line-up, two-day Action Princess Disneyland itinerary, I will post this under attractions shortly.
