In need of renovation.....

I stay in Reading a lot and usually stay in the Crowne Plaza near the town centre, however this was full this week so I was booked into this hotel.
To be honest there is nothing wrong with this hotel, the staff are friendly and the buffet breakfast is what you would expect from a Holiday Inn. I did not eat in the restaurant in the evening due to the prices but there is a very good Fish and Chip shop straight over the road from the hotel entrance.
As I was on a business trip I was trying to work on an evening and there were too many children running past my room for my liking, but this was not a massive problem.
The manager of this hotel should to go up the road to the Crowne Plaza, which also used to be a Holiday Inn, and see what they have done to their rooms in the last couple of years. The rooms here seem to not have been renovated for years however they are perfectly clean but very old fashioned with TINY bathrooms and desks for working.
I will come here again when necessary but it is not a patch on the Crowne Plaza.

Better than average for Holiday Inn but still only OK

Stayed here in June 08 on business, having stayed in this same hotel previously (but only when better options not available).
The hotel is quite good compared with other Holiday Inns but overall it is an average business style hotel.
The rooms I have stayed in have been small but clean and in good decorative order. The general ambience of the public areas is similar to an airport lounge.
On this occasion I had room service on one evening. A main course salad that was rather tasteless accompained by some chips that had doubtless been warm at some point. I have also previously eaten in the restaurant and found the food to be indifferent.
The breakfast is OK with a good selection and there are newspapers to read while you eat.
On one of the days that I stayed we were all turfed out by a fire alarm at about 0730 which turned out to be because the toaster had got stuck and burned a piece of bread - surely could be managed better than having hundreds of guests having to take an unwelcome visit to the car park!
If you want somewhere to stay and have the transport to go elsewhere for decent food this isn't a bad choice.
One thing to note is that a lot of the bedrooms are on the ground floor which does not suit me as I like to have a window open at night. Sometimes the staff are able to move you on request so if this bothers you, you might like to put in your request when booking.
A Real Gem

After reading the reviews, we were not disappointed with the hotel.
Again, nothing much to look at on the outside, but lovely on the inside with a friendly modern reception, great staff who were caring, and sorted the kids out with free games and balloons.
Our family room, was large, clean, and had all you could desire, with a great power shower.
It was superb value at ?65 for the family room, with an all you can eat hot and cold breakfast, and a great swimming pool and hot tub for which we had nearly all to ourselves. All in the price.
You can't really get better value than that.
We skipped on the dinner at the hotel, but walked up the road to a pub carvery, and what a bargain. ?3.50 for an adult carvery, ?3.25 for the kids with desserts being no more than ?2-?3. That's the cheapest carvery I've found anywhere, and it was nice with drinks cheap too.
This would be a great hotel in terms of location for watching Reading FC or a shopping break, and about 30 minutes to Legoland.
I could not find any faults with it.

Stayed here to go to legoland it was really handy and very reasonably priced for the quality, good pool for kids to while away a few hours, there was a match on in Reading on the sat and it was geting very busy as we were leaving, so I'd guess that would'nt have been the best time to stay, overall a very good experience, if I had one complaint it would be the price of drinks in the bar, and the main bar itself was'nt very ambient.

This was a nice hotel and was well priced on a promotion for myself wife and step daughter stayed in one room inc breakfast for ?56 on a saturday night nice pool and spa common areas were a little tired but ok.The one quiet major problem is there were children in rooms abvove and they run about a lot making a fair bit of noise so if this bothers either go in school time or ask for 1st floor room.
otherwise good stay.
