This is a great hotel for the business traveller. Tastefully renovated rooms, flat screen TV and modern. The room I stayed in was large and bright. Close to the subway and a local supermarket as well as restaurants including Pizza Hut and other international brands. Great breakfast included in rate and a really nice area to sit out in the evening over drinks. Excellent value and much recommended.

I had a choice of staying at swanky five star in the Financial street and more down to earth but comfortable holiday inn. I gave it a try to stay and I am happy i did it. Hotel has just completed renovation and rooms are brand new. Great friendly staffs. And just few minutes walk to Financial street. Will return again after the Olympics!!!

Travelled from U.K to Hong Kong then on to N.Z. and Australia finally arriving in Beijing after 6 weeks of travelling feeling rather weary. Arrived late at the hotel but found the reception desk staff very efficient and extremely helpful. Our executive double room was perfect. Booking in at executive level does not cost much more than normal rates but allows use of the exec. lounge which has many perks. The staff in this lounge were very helpful (A special mention for Sofia)and pleasant at all times contrary to the experiences quoted by one reviewer and the laundry service just brilliant. The food selection is wide enough to suit any palate and the staff are very efficient.Because of the forthcoming Olympic Games the hotel is being updated (as are so many others) but this did not affect our enjoyment at all. I consider this hotel to be very good value for money and will definitely be back.

I was in Beijing for a trade show recently, stayed at the Holiday Inn Downtown Beijing.
There is much to like about this hotel, but unfortunately my stay was spoiled by one incident of extremely poor customer service which I will relate at the end of this review.
The hotel is nothing fancy - the buiding is quite old and basic, the lobby is quite small. The rooms are currently undergoing rennovation, so there is a bit of noise during the day, but not at an hour where it will disurb you.
My room was on the executive floor and was really very nice. Obviously a room that had already undergone rennovation. The bed was very comfortable, there was plenty of space and there was a 32" flat panel LCD television. The bathroom was exquisite, with a very large shower with one of those rain heads. There is no bathtub, but that doesn't bother me.
Nice touches are that the executive level floor has complimentary internet (a very fast connection), complimentary soft drinks and beer and up to 100RMB of complimentary laundry per day (which I didn't use).
I ate the dinner buffet on my first night there, which was a mistake. The food was not very good. But the breakfast buffet was much better with a good selection including omlettes made to order. I also ate the dim sum lunch in their Chinese restaurant which was very good, and pretty reasonably priced.
The hotel's gym was a dissapointment and I didn't end up using it since they were missing an eliptical cross trainer. I didn't use the pool- its indoor and quite small, but certainly looks usable.
Location was a bit mixed. Its not really very close to anything, but it is located very close to a subway station, and there are a few restaurants and a large indoor market nearby.
Overall the hotel is very good value and the whole time I was there I was thinking to myself that I would stay there again, but unfortunately my good experience with the hotel was soured by my checkout experience. I had a late flight, so I asked for a late checkout, and hey gave me until 2pm. At 2pm I moved to the executive lounge where I wanted to do a bit of work, and needed an internet connection. Now take into consideration that Internet connection was included in my room rate, I asked to extend my connection for 2 hours. The girl in the executive lounge categorically refused, and she insisted that I pay for the connection. I was a bit shocked at this, and I find it ludicrous that they would jeopardise my future patronage for something so trivial. This knowing that I spend about 30 nights per year in Intercontinental brand hotels.
Shame, because they got almost everything else right.

Good hotel but maybe give the laundry service a miss!

The interior is nice and fresh looking and it is situated in a good location with shops and food places near by.
My room was small but really good in terms of comfort and cleanliness. It was also very nice and quiet with thick walls.
The reastaurant on the ground floor was ok. Plenty of selection but didn't always look that appealing. However, you could find enough to ensure you ate well before or after embarking on some major sightseeing!
There are plenty of shops inside the hotel selling gifts, Chinese Tea, snacks etc and a swimming pool and spa, beauty salon, business centre with internet access. All are a little over priced and you can only barter the prices in the souvenier shops!
All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel. My only complaint was the laundry service. My clothes came back ironed but not washed and one of my tops had a faint mark on it which it hadn't had previously!! As you can imagine I was pretty hacked off to say the least. However, the general manager (a young lady) was very helpful and understanding and ensured that I didn't get charged but lets face it, that was the least they could do really.
