Friendly Staff - Not Friendly Room

Nice looking building from the outside, but old and smell bad inside the room. My wife and I stayed for one night and I slept only about 3 hours because of bad odor. Attention Holiday Inn Manager: Need new carpet or a good shampoo cleaning badly. Noisy inside LG air conditioning unit when it's running.
Friendly staff. Lots of amenities (free soda and juice). Excellence value. I rate the overall an average because of smelly room.

Arrived at PDX after almost 24 hours travel.
Just a ring on the hotel phone at the baggage claim area and the shuttle bus came a few minutes later. Friendly check in, and
We dropped dead on the beds not long after.
Nothing fancy but a roomy clean room. Did not feel any strange smell.
In the middle of the night a caralarm started to go off, at least 20 times! We saw hotel people trying to get rid of it but failed.
We complained and got hot breakfast for free.
Got free ride back to PDX in the morning to pick up the rental car

An excellent Holiday Inn. Stayed here for next morning flight. Employee at check in was extremely helpful and conscientious. Lots of amenities. Nice above average room. Got a great deal on Hotwire. An excellent value.

I stayed here for one night in June before flying out of PDX.
I had requested a room on the north side of the hotel (furthest from the train tracks) and got it. The hotel employees I encountered were extremely helpful and friendly. My room (604) was very spacious and had a comfortable king bed. The ambience of the room was pleasant overall (I had turned on all of the eco-friendly lights in the room after dark). I noticed very little outdoor noise from either airplanes or trains. I had a pasta meal and salad in the hotel restaurant--both fine but not great. I also enjoyed a well-made cocktail in the hotel bar.
While the bathroom and linens in the room were clean, the carpet in my room and in the hallway was musty. A good steamcleaning seems to be in order here. Besides musty carpets, my main problem with the hotel was the lighting in the common areas. The lighting in the hallways and restaurant was too dark for me. The hotel appears to be making a serious attempt to lower its electric bill at the expense of pleasant lighting. I would consider staying here in the future if the lighting problem was resolved.

I fly out every 6 months to see my daughter in Portland from Orlando. Each time I stay at this hotel and have been treated great all 6 times. I wouldn't have come back if I wasn't! The staff are very friendly and the shuttle to/from the airport has always been a smooth easy process. The room service is great and the food is very good! I will continue to stay at this hotel!
