I have stayed here on two seperate occasions in the last few weeks.
The first time I arrived to find the hotel computer systems down. I had booked a standard room but as Priority Club Platinum member I expected an upgrade. As always with this chain I had to ask for the upgrade but was told as the computer was down this was not possible......not quite sure why?
On my second stay, upon request I was happily upgraded.
The standard room was fine but the executive room was much better. These had obviously been recently refurbished. I like the fact the exec rooms provided OJ as well as mineral water as part of the complementary package.
Ordered room service on both occasions which arrived promptly and was of average quality.
Pretty average really, nothing to write home about but nothing wrong either.

Me and my freinds stayed at the hotel for one night on Saturday 11th March 2006. We arrived at lunchtime to a rather busy reception with other stag and hen parties checking in. The receptionist was cheerful and quickly arranged the keys and we was off to the room. The room was on the small side and smelt a bit musty, could have done with a lick of paint and a new carpet from the cigerette marks( I suppose thats what you get for booking a smoking room!not my choice but hey!) There was a mini bar and a hair dryer, perfect for us girls. The main problem was there was no heating in our room and the heated towel rail was not working either, not good to say it was snowing outside. The hotel is in the perfect area, with shops and bars nearby, there is even a Ikon nightclub over the road, which cannot be heard from your room as other people have suggested.
After a late night on the town we was hoping for a night cap and was plesently surprised that the bar was still open which it does to the early hours ie 8 am!! One word of warning it was full of stag parties, so it could be quite intimidating for a couple or more mature guests. Some of my friends who had gone to bed even came back down in their pajamas and the night staff never batted a eyelid. We never made breakfast but the bar does sell snacks which are pricey!! I would recommend the hotel at weekends the perfect place for stag and hen parties only!!I am sure the hotel is more reserve during the week!

this hotel is about 10 minutes drive from newcastle centre. it is very satisfactory and would be a three star. the outside of the building loks old and run down but it is very plesant on the inside. the rooms are very large and spacious with all amenities such as trousers presser, tea/coffee making facilities etc.... the pool is small enough and looks a bit old. the breakfast is vey good but when i was there is was very busy and had to ask for more milk and cereal to be put out.;..... over all though it was a very enjoyable hotel and would easily reccomend it!!!

We stayed at this hotel for a weekend at the end of January 2006. As it appears InterContinental Hotels are focusing on their HIExpress brand in the UK, Holiday Inn's have suffered since then from lack of investment I knew not to expect great things from this hotel but it was central and cheap.
Reception staff were pleasant (when they weren't playing Solitaire on the PC!) and we got checked in easily. The room was ok - a little on the small side, obviously a little dated and the carpet was a bit threadbear. It was, however, clean, secure, the shower worked and the bed was comfortable. We experienced no issue with noise.
Staff in the bar and restaurant were friendly. I thought the breakfast was superb and as the hotel was so quiet there was a very relaxed atmosphere about the place which was nice.
I understand that the complex the hotel is housed in is getting bulldozed and redeveloped so I wouldn't expect ICHotels will do a lot to this hotel so don't expect luxury but as with all Holiday Inns you know what you're getting and they do what they say on the tin!

I stayed here for one night in February 2006 having booked through the priority club website paying GBP65 room only.
I am a Platinum Priority Club member which presumably means I'm one of their better customers. I was therefore very surprised and disappointed to be given a room that would be described as compact if I was being generous. I shudder to think what other rooms would be like if there are ones smaller/less well appointed than this. Maybe I was just unlucky and the hotel was full of Platinum members!
The other elements that you get in a Holiday Inn were all in place - big towels, clean rooms and comfy beds with choice of pillows, but the size of room they are selling at such prices is unforgiveable.
I definitely won't be staying here again.
