This hotel had no bells and whistles, but it provided a comfortable stay in Montevideo. Our room was clean and up-to-date, and the services were good. We checked in on a Sunday afternoon, and the internet wasn’t working in our room. We were impressed that someone came in on a Sunday evening and fixed it. The hotel is located in the downtown area and is in easy walking distance to the old city. That being said, the street it is located on is a little dark and congested. If you want light and a view of the ocean (or mouth of the Plata), stay somewhere closer to the Rambla. Breakfast was pretty good. It was not a spectacular hotel, but it did provide all the basic services needed and was reasonably priced. The exercise room was more like a museum of outdated equipment, but hopefully you are not going to Uruguay just to workout. Jogging on the Rambla is a much more rewarding experience.

After staying at the Tryp Montevideo a year earlier, I decided to give this hotel a try as we were only in town for two nights.
Booking online via their official website was easy and we took the slightly more expensive option of a better room with flexibility of cancellation. We got a third floor room facing a wall which at the time of booking said we should have a city view. Maybe the mural was missing? I understood the hotel was old but the lobby was quite nice and I thought our room was too. The carpet was aging but generally the room was quite ok but I did not like the shower over the bath. We had free broadband in our room but it was slow and unresponsive frequently.
The pool on the top floor was good and afforded quite good views in limited directions. Breakfast was reasonably good. Location is good and just 50 meters from Radisson Hotel and casino. Room service was a plus with good options and quite cheap I felt. We got a late check-out at 6pm for an extra U$30 which was also good.
The front-desk staff did not appear friendly and I got the impression they felt uncomfortable speaking English. My wife speaks Spanish quite well and they preferred talking to her.
Although this is a reasonably old hotel, I thought it was quite satisfactory and the price of U$80 seemed good for what we got (minus the mural)! Other than the unwelcoming feeling I got from the front- desk staff, I could only personally recommended this hotel hotel as a cost-effective, downtown hotel which is handy to the Radisson and casino. I will not go back to this hotel myself as I personally believe the Tryp Montevideo (see my review of Jan, 2007) offers a much more pleasant experience.

Holiday Inn Montevideo -- Not all advertized on-line is true.

Holiday Inn Montevideo is a small aging hotel in need of cosmetic repairs and updating of shower heads, hairdryers, etc.
Our room was spacious but the TV didn't work properly and their 'fitness center' (advertized on their web-site) was unacceptable. The few machines in the tiny room didn't work and were potentially dangerous. This is what really bothered us as we travel extensively, and one important requirement and a 'must' for us in our decision to stay in a hotel, is their gym/fitness center. The one at the Holiday Inn has machines that don't work, it is pretty much non-existent.
Their breakfast is a deluxe continental buffet -- no hot items, but it is fine.

In a mounth I spent many days at Holiday Inn in Montevideo, that was a sort of "stop&go" for our journey between argentina and south brasil.
I always had clean, fully equipped and wide rooms.
Service (especially reception) was great..they really never said us "not possible" and the maids were always present and punctual.
Good breakfast included and great position beetween the city center and the ciudadela.
Alvaro and William of reception:THANK YOU YOUR HELP WAS FOUNDAMENTAL FOR OUR TRIP
