We booked the HI Carbondale Conference Center for a midway point between Memphis and Chicago. After several hours of wandering back roads on the motorcycle in the blazing sun, the HI was a wonderful site on the horizon.
The facility is clean and appears very new as other posters have commented. Check in was easy and they quickly recognized me as a priority club member, giving us a snack bag of cookies and two bottles of water.
The room was large and the bedding was comfortable. The bathroom was clean but there were a few random hairs here and there indicating a spotty job on the floors and in the shower. Our room had a refrigerator and microwave.
The hotel is just on the edge of a large commercial corridor with lots of restaurants, grocery stores (Kroger/WalMart) with in a 5 minute drive. Just an FYI, we were going to get a six pack to take back to the room but they do not sell beer in the grocery stores in this county. We were told that there were several package stores in the area but we opted to just go back to the hotel.
There is a Houlihans restaurant attached to the facility and while we did not eat there we did sit at the bar for a couple of hours playing travel scrabble. The staff was really nice and it was a good mix of locals and hotel guests.
Overall it was a nice but quick visit to Carbondale. I'd definitely recommend it to others traveling the road with or without family and to a business traveler looking for a easy end of the day place with a clean chain restaurant attached.

This is a very nice hotel in Carbondale. It is definitely the best one that I have stayed at in the area. It is a new hotel, so everything is nice and updated. We stayed in a double queen room. The room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel has a pool, hot tub, and fitness center. The fitness center is small, but it wasn't crowded at all. I was the only one in there each day I used it. The pool is a decent size and pretty typical as far as hotel pools go. There is a restaurant that is attached to the hotel and during the week you get a voucher for a free breakfast at the restaurant. However, to get the free meal you have to choose from one of three choices. I would stay at this hotel again if I come back to Carbondale.

I have stayed at this hotel twice now while doing business in the area. In my opinion it is one of the nicer hotels in the area. I stayed in both Jan and Feb of 2008 and had a good experience.
The room was clean and modern. The bathroom was also clean and modern but had a cigarette smell to it. I think someone was smoking in a different room because it only happened once in a while and was only in the bathroom. I notified the FD. Unfortunately I believe this was the fault of the smoker in the room sneaking a cig!
Other than that I used the workout facility. It is small but decent. 2 treadmills an eliptical and a bike. There is also a nice pool and hot tub area.
All in all I have had a great experience at this hotel and will continue to stay there while on business.

As an SIUC parent, I've stayed in several hotels in Carbondale over the years. I'd set my expectations for Carbondale accomodations VERY low after staying at other properties, including Giant City Lodge.
Then this hotel opened. It does a nice job of accomodating guests in style. Extremely clean; quiet and efficient heating/cooling; comfortable bed with selection of pillows; a fridge & microwave; USA Today delivered, and a decent and affordable room service. The pool and jacuzzi are nice. (When I asked the college kids/employees at the front desk to turn down the annoying "music" in the pool area, they did. Also, the timer dial for the jacuzzi was broken.)
As with all Carbondale hotels, the front desk/room service staff are college kids. This staff was very courteous and professional. Room service from Houlihan's was a bit uneven. They have the very convenient scheduled-breakfast ordered by filling out the card and hanging it on the doorknob. The coffee both mornings was extremely weak (ick!), and you have to ask for real butter. But the food and beverages were very good for the most part (apparently depending on which cook/bartender was on duty). And, again, menu prices are reasonable.
Overall, a very pleasant stay!

The staff was very friendly, The pool and the hot tub area was clean.
The rooms were very spacious. There seemed to be a little noise coming from the hallway and adjoining rooms. Great location.
