I stayed at this hotel for a weekend with a social group I belong to. A fantastic stay which I couldn't fault. I was lucky enough to get one of the exective rooms so had the usual dressing gown & slippers and a very nice room. Food was excellent. Pool & jacuzzi area was fine.
A four star hotel but I would give it five.

I have attended a reunion weekend every 2 years for 18 years at this hotel. This year the experience was less than great.
No fridge in room, taken out to repair and not replaced
Friends room not made up on first morning and was never made up that day.
No vermouth or dark rum in bar, one choice of gin, bar person asked me to point out the bottle of brandy as they did not know what it looked like.
Lettuce on starter at dinner was dark brown around the edges.
Had to ask four times on second morning for tea and coffee.
Staff behind breakfast bar missing for long periods of time causing long queues.
A cataloge of little things which proved that the staff were either untrained or incapable of doing the job. Moreover, the senior staff
did not seem to think there was anything wrong with the way the hotel was running.
I would no longer recommend this hotel, although the hotel is
comfortable, but is not run properly.
The hotel offered a good stay in the past but not now.

We stayed for one night in March with family. We received a friendly greeting (even though the receptionist was very busy) and were promptly on our way to our rooms. They was a mini bar but there were complimentary Orange Juice, Kit Kat, Sparkling and Still Mineral Water which was nice. The room had a japanese feel to it with the sliding wooden window shades. The bathroom was clean and had all the toiletries needed including shoe shine, sewing kit, nail file etc. After returning from our night out (quite late) we were peckish, there wasn't a full room service due to the Easter period and lack of staff, but the Night Porter was more than happy to prepare a mixture of sandwiches - they were just perfect. Loads of freshly made sandwiches with different fillings, salad and crisps. Then off to bed - which was surprisingly comfortable for a hotel. The gym was small but had all the facilities needed for workout. The breakfast was buffet style - with all the usual, cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurts, cold meats and then there was the hot buffet option. " types of sausages, eggs, beans, mushrooms, hash browns, black pudding. The only think which could have done with some tweaking was the toaster...you had to put your bread through 3 times...which took a while and did create a bit of a queue. Other than that it was good value. We paid ?58 for an executive room and that was for B&B. Would definately use again.

Like many chain hotels, the quality of individual hotels varies somewhat. I have to say that I have stayed at this particular hotel both for business and pleasure many times over the years.
Under the current manager Louise Dodd (my how she must weep when she sees what has happened to her previous hotel the original Leeds/Bradford now Brittannia is running it), the hotel is as good as it has ever been. The property is well decorated and clean, the staff pleasant and attentive and if you have to stay away from home and just off the M62, then this is the place to stay. Ms Dodd has even found away around the dreadful Holiday Inn breakfast experience and that ridiculous toaster - if you want a pot of tea and toast from the kitchen, then just ask she says - good for you Ms Dodd - tell your colleagues around the UK that one.
Arriving late at the hotel I sampled room service food and despite being as far away from the kitchen as it was possible to be, the food arrived warm and was appetising.

I stayed here for 4 nights in December on business and found it to be very good. The location is good, very close to the M62 but far enough away not be bothered by noise. The rooms are a good size and kept very clean. Food is very good, but coming from Australia I found it a bit expensive, I don't know how it compares with other hotels here. The gym and pool were well equipped and well maintained. The only thing I found odd was the lack of a safe in the room and no room fridge, but you can't have everything.
To sum up , very good for the traveller on business but maybe not for families with small kids, not much for them to do.
