When you are a walk-in, anything is possible.
I had never been in this area before and walked in here because I had first tried a local historic hotel that was far too expensive for the area. Trying to get New York City prices in the middle of Florida farm country is, I think, foolish, so I asked about other hotels and was sent toward the Holiday Inn, south.
I have a Priority Club card that includes Holiday Inns, so that was my next choice.
Past experience with HI over many years has made me cautious, because the corporate standard seems to vary greatly from one property to another. Generally, HI is middle of the road between the cheapos and the up scale properties.
This looks like many other two-story, outside entrance motels. It is set back from the highway in a nice area without interstate truck noise and the whole community looks and feels safe, even at night.
There are restaurants within walking distance and a restaurant in the hotel as well. Breakfast there was fine, but pricey and I fell for the old "do you want orange juice?" trick, (well, it is Florida, and I thought orange juice was pretty much like coffee), and got stuck for a few bucks for a glass of juice.
The non-smoking room was a nice surprise and could easily have been in a Marriott or Hilton with a very well made up king size bed, a new dark carpet and plenty of towels and amenities.
The pool was well kept and the hot tub apparently great because I saw a lot of people using it, even in the rain!
The in room phones had some problems and twice my room key had to be remade because it didn't work. On my second day, I was locked out because they had forgotten to extend the locks another 24 hours.
Lobby and front desk service were excellent with a cheerful staff at all times...a far cry from the usual exhausted, half-awake desk clerks one so often finds. Even the manager was present on several occasions when I was in the lobby.
The rate for a single person, second floor, non-smoking king was $99 a night.
I stayed two nights and would look forward to returning again.

Room was fine, hotel facilities not great. Restaurant closed one night at 8.30 as they had run out of food, not what you want after a flight from England.
Breakfast was nothing special.
All told the stay was OK, but is rather pricey for what you get.

We have stayed at this hotel many times and belong to the priority membership. I recently called to make reservation and was shocked at the increase in price of this hotel which seems ludicrous for its quality and aged ammenities. You probably will get a $5-$10 off price if you book online but it is still very $$$.
Drive to Orlando!

Stayed here in February. My room smelled like a wet dog. I switched rooms but the new room was little improvement. I've thrown away better towels than they provided. This room made me feel dirty and uncomfortable. Orlando has better hotels for the same price.
The BEST in Lakeland

My husband and I have stayed here several times, and it has always been consistently nice. The
rooms are very clean. The only complaint is
the continental breakfast --- which consists of
only sweet rolls --- not a good idea for a diabetic!
They serve a breakfast in the restaurant -- but it
is not included in the room and it is not the best.
A better idea is to eat breakfast somewhere else.
But, this is the BEST place to stay in Lakeland.
