Another typical Holiday Inn

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in June 2008. The hotel is a bit out of the way. It's four stops from the Shijo/river station, so it doesnt take long to get to the main part of town. You just have to be willing to navigate the train system (it really isn't that bad, and I don't speak Japanese).
Cons: The beds are incredibly hard at this hotel. It's not centerally located. The breakfast food is not good, but that seemed typical in the Japanese hotels we stayed at.
Pros: pleasant english speaking front desk staff (they also sell postcard stamps and exchange money). Free internet access on two computers in the business center byt the front desk. Easy access to the attached mall with food and shopping.
I was in a group, so I don't know how much the hotel cost us. So I'm unable to say if it was a good value.
If I were to go back to Kyoto, I would stay closer to the center of town.

I would echo the positive comments made by others. I stayed here recently for four nights. Although a bit out of the way, the Mall next door is very convenient (and has a Starbucks!) and it's easy to get buses which take you to the main tourist areas of Kyoto.
The rooms are very comfortable, very good value, there is free internet and the staff are extremely helpful.

This hotel is a fair distance from Kyoto main station and the journey is not walkable.
To compensate this the hotel provides a shuttle bus that runs from the back of the station to the doorstep. On the way back the bus makes two scheduled stops at two very popular areas of Kyoto.
The rooms are very clean and tidy. The staff are excellent. On my first night water started coming through the ceiling (I later found out it was due to an energetic bather in the room above). The staff moved me to another room without a moments hesitation.
The hotel is situated in a small mall of a very high standard. I would definitely use this hotel again. The best advice I can give is, be aware the hotel is not with-in walking distance of any sites so make full use of the shuttle bus, work out how and when the buses and subway run as they are very cheap, and extend all over Kyoto. With just a bit of effort you will be rewarded with one of the most fascinating, beautiful cities in Asia.

Overall, the hotel was pretty good. The room was clean, and the price was quite reasonable.
The AC in the room didn't work, and even though we had a non-smoking room, it smelled smoky. Other than those minor complaints, we were happy with the hotel.
