We needed a hotel close to the airport for our overnight connection in Houston. Picked this Holiday Inn as it shows a 3 diamond rating and was close to the airport.
We used the hotel shuttle which took about 30 minutes to pick us up. upon arriving at the hotel the lobby is nice, with a restaurant and bar. This was the only nice thing about the hotel.
The hallways are run down, carpet was wet in places and stained
and we had not even gotten to our room yet. Our room was HORRIBLE. The smell of smoke was SO BAD that we almost could not sleep. I have stayed in plenty of smoking rooms and have never had one smell so bad.
I do not recommend this hotel to anyone for any reason

I am a business traveler and stay in alot of hotels. This hotel is not bad. Good Eats Restaurant is good for it's tavern food. Have not tried any other, but can get a decent burger or sandwich at reasonable price.
Rooms are clean, no problem, but towels are another story. I had one good towel that didn't smell mildewed. But it seemed like all the other towels had been on the rack for awhile and weren't changed, (since maybe no one used them). But when room service comes in...ALL towels should be changed. Mine smelled like they had been hanging there for quite some time. And yes, the so-called "hi-speed" internet is too slow to be called Hi-speed.
Only other thing is, there is no in-room microwave.
Otherwise, a comfortable hotel w/coffee in lobby for business travelers waiting for airport shuttle.
You have to "not mind" the 3:30am FedEx flight to wake you. I like to wake early anyway.

The hotel itself is mediocre. The rooms are clean, reasonably appointed and the staff is generally friendly.
For people who want a place near the airport, it is not bad. However, there is little in the way of entertainment or food nearby.
If you are in need of a high speed internet connection. Go elsewhere. Though it is free, as are most high speed connections at Holiday Inn, there is little speedy about the connection.
According to Speakeasy speed test, the speed of the conneciton is 39 kbps... yes, that's about the speed of dial-up. This was a considerable disappointment.
If they could improve that one aspect of the hotel, it would be a much more enjoyable experience.

Stayed 2 nights in January. Room needed some rennovation and was poor. Aircon did not switch off and had to be replaced. There is nothing much to do in the area unless you have a car but in fairness it is an airport hotel. Bus transfer was good and they run a transfer to the local mall if you like shopping. The restaurant was a disgrace, the food was disgusting and I complained and did get a refund if not an apology or a decent meal. There was nowhere close to go instead. Gym is very limited and the pool not that clean either, the weather was 80 degrees so it would have been used. Overall a big dissapointment but in my experience HI in the US is not like in Europe and this is becoming more typical. HI Express seem to offer better value.
