We were just passing through, heading back to Arizona. We picked this hotel only from 'name recognition', and it is conveniently located. Staff were very friendly and accomodating. Parking was available, but with some sort of business gathering going on, I had to park quite a distance from our room. The room was OK except for the beds which were as hard as any hotel/motel bed I've experienced. The sports bar was very nice. One free drink upon registering and complimentary hot snacky things. The free breakfast was excellent! For dinner I'd recommend the Sonora Steakhouse, across the street and down about a hundred meters. (It was recommended to us by one of the staff.) Would I stay there again? Perhaps, but I'm going to check the bunk before I sign.

I have stayed in Hermosillo before at the Hotel Fiesta Americana, which is a good hotel. This was my first time staying at the Holiday Inn and have to say, despite my initial worries, it was a pleasant experience.
Location was about what can be expected for Hermosillo. Holiday Inn is next door to just about all of the other hotels in town. The front desk staff was very pleasant and helpful. Parking was good...be aware that you will have your car washed several times during your stay by people in the parking lot...it is customary to tip them and a common occurrence in most of Hermosillo. The room we got on the first floor with 2 double beds was in need of updating. Other members of our party stayed in a room directly upstairs that had been remodeled. The remodeled rooms are modern and chic. I recommend requesting one.
All the rooms face a quart yard with a garden, small fountain and pool. It is very quaint and colonial. Come to find out the hotel was not originally a Holiday Inn but merely purchased by the chain. This explains some of the more authentic aspects about the hotel.
The best part is the breakfast...a huge buffet with traditional Mexican fare along with a nice selection of fruit, pastries and juices. Speaking of food, if you didn't already know, carne asada tacos are king in Hermosillo. Really, Sonoran beef is the best. Make sure to hit up a taco stand while you are there and, if you are adventurous, also try tacos de cabeza. They are a specialty in Hermosillo.

I had misgivings about staying here, having read past reviews about this hotel. I can happily report that all is well here at the Holiday Inn. The staff trys hard to accomodate, the food is pretty good and the rooms are tidy. Given that the weather in July is exceptionally hot, I visited the pool alot and found it clean and relatively free of bugs-important to stay aware of.
The restaurant broils a great steak, but also does well with typical Mexican fare.
All in all, I would recommend the Holiday Inn. But visit when it's cooler!

I stayed 4 nights in the Holiday Inn Hermosillo for business, primarily because my other hotel choices were full. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaraunt and sports bar had good food, friendly staff and were clean. The pool looked nice and was fairly busy on Thursday and Friday. The rooms were clean and OK for the price, however my biggest complaint was the hard bed. One night on it might have been acceptable, but 4 nights was torture. The walls between rooms was also a problem. You could hear almost every word from the adjoining room. Also, each room had a door from the outside walkway and another door which opened either onto a balcony or onto the inside courtyard area. The patio door seemed very poor with lots of glass and only a deadbolt for security.
There is an executive section at the rear of the hotel. These rooms may be nicer and worth the extra money. They also have covered parking underneath. The normal rooms have outside parking in front of each room. The parking areas are fenced-in from the street for security.
The food was good in both the main restaraunt and the adjacent sports bar. I would have liked to see more American-style foods for breakfast, but the cook will fry and scramble eggs to your liking. The bacon is VERY salty. Lots of different juices were available, except for plain orange juice. BTW, no soda machines are on the grounds, so expect to pay $2 USD or 20 pesos for a can of pop at the sports bar.
There is a gift shop across the driveway near the front lobby. However, the shop manager spoke almost no English and wasn't that helpful when trying to find some over-the-counter medicine.
My best recommendation for those wanting to stay in Hermosillo - stay at either the Fiesta Inn or Fiesta Americana and eat at the Fiesta Americana for breakfast.
