Great weekend stopover for families

We stayed here at end of June on the annual journey south from Scotland at the start of the school holidays. The combination of a very spacious room, swimming pool/gym and pleasant relaxed staff made it the best stopover we have had. It's great to set off the following day with kids mellowed by a good breakfast and swim. As long as the weekend offer price is available ((?78 for room & breakfast) we will use this from now on in preference to the many other budget hotels we've tried all along the M5/M6 corridor

We stayed in the hotel for a 2 night weekend break. Unlike other reviews, we found no problem with the staff during the stay, the service we received was fine. We had a family room which consisted of a double plus 2 singles. It was clean, relatively spacious and had plenty of storage space. We used the leisure facilities throughout our stay, they were probably the best I have experienced in the UK. The pool is large enough to accomodate everyone and there is a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Best of all its free to residents. For evening meal, I would strongly recommend eating in the bar rather than the restaurant. The restaurant is purely carvery (which is something the hotel does not make clear) and whilst the quality was OK, there was little choice for us and the children. Bar meals were better in terms of choice and a children's menu. The Holiday Inn group are certainly geared up for children, they gave our kids complementary activity packs and swim bags during the evening meal. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. The location is outside Gloucester and you will need a car to get around but it could well be used as a base to explore the Cotswolds etc. We were in Gloucester to attend a wedding, I would certainly stay in the hotel again if I needed to be based in that area for a reason whether on business or with the family.

This is a great hotel. The rooms a very modern, and staff very friendly. We were a group over on a rugby weekend with Munster, and they looked after us....
The only downfall is that the hotel is situated on the outskirts of the down, so everytime you have to go into town, its a taxi...
I booked through the www.ichotelsgroup.com website on the morning that I was arriving...

I stayed 1 night on business and arrived after a very long day and did not like to have to wait 15 minutes to check in. There was only 1 member of the front desk staff who was having some difficulties. Eventually after 15 minutes she got some help and I got checked in.
Rooms are pleasant enough. I ate in the hotel bar and enjoyed the food although service at the bar was slow, with staff disappearing for long periods. The bar was relaxing and had a good coffee selection. There is a large supermarket 5 minutes walk away. Location is 10-15 minute drive out of town but that was not a problem for me.
Breakfast was the usually buffet. Despite the poor service on this occassion I would probably return to this hotel.

Good base although surrounding area is not that great - office blocks and a Sainsburys, was expecting beautiful scenery.
Family rooms were spacious and clean although nearly ?8 if you paid to watch a film..rip off !
We got this break for ?99 which included 2 nights,1 evening meal and breakfast both days therefore a real bargain! Dinner was ok,a carvery,no other choice, drinks were really expensive, bottle of white wine ?17 and nearly ?5 for a rum and coke, cheaper to nip across the road to Sainsburys and drink in your room!
Staff very friendly, leisure facilities an added bonus and no extra charge to use except aerobic classes.
I would recommend staying here but wouldn't pay the full price, look out for the deals..well worth it !
