Room service was available via excelent service from lounge bar.
Check in was VERY slow, because we just arrived after a group, and only 1 person was on duty.

We hadn't thought of going to Gdansk, but a fare of £8.99 (plus tax) was a rather good incentive. What a great location for a weekend away. The hotel reception was as accommodating as any I have experienced anywhere in the world, particularly so as we walked in at 2am. We had booked through a travel supermarket and the rooms came in at around £50 per night.
Comments have expressed the hotel as lacking in soul, but it is a Holiday Inn and I think a good one at that. Ultra clean room with superb shower. Choice of pillow type (I don't get that in central London) and comfortable duvet.
Amusingly, the receptionist told us she would have to block the adult movie because we were with our son. The fact that he is 9 moths old didn't seem to matter, but he didn't want to watch it anyway.
We didn't have breakfast but there is a fine coffee shop just down the street with excellent coffee for a pound. We found Gdansk so cheap, struggling to spend £100 over the weekend. The better restaurants are more expensive but worth the extra, offering wild boar and local specialities (but one doesn't go to Poland for the food).
Went to Sopot for the day on the train. Well worthwhile for 50 pence return from the station across the road. If the weather is good, head to the beach and try out the delightful cafes and bars right on the sand. It's worth the walk - as is the wooden pier with fabulous Baltic views.
Checking out of the hotel was as pleasant as arriving, the staff offering to order a taxi for later in the day when we returned to the airport.
We will return - and stay at the Holiday Inn.

A clean, comforatable and quiet hotel

The hotel was extremely clean and comfortable. I like a quiet room, and so when I saw that the hotel was near a main road opposite the railway station, I asked for a room on the third floor at the back of the hotel - this room was very quiet, and I did not hear any outside noise. The only bad point about the Holiday Inn was that it lacked character - a rather modern, faceless chain hotel, however if you are simply after a comfortable place to stay the night which is conveniently placed, you will be more than happy. The Holiday Inn provided a good quality breakfast consisting of cooked food (bacon, eggs, sausages, tomatoes and mushrooms), ham, cheese, bread, fruit, yoghurts, and cereals. The Holiday Inn is perfectly placed. It is opposite the train station, and we caught a train for a day trip to Sopot (worthwhile if the weather is good). It is also close to the old town, and the shipyards (don't let this put you off, but a visit here is important when visiting Gdansk!). Bus B to the airport stops immediately in front of the hotel, and the buses we took from and to the airport were punctual. A previous reviewer wrote that Gdansk is not recommended for tourists or visitors - I could not disagree more! I myself was initially a little reluctant to visit, associating the city with striking shipworkers etc., however I was very pleasantly surprised. It is a very fascinating, picturesque city, and it has many great cafes and restaurants, and interesting places to visit.

Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport - small, friendly and very easy to find out. Ordered a fixed rate taxi from the hotel, cost 50PLN (approx. 13 Euro) - recommended. drive takes approx. 30 min.
Gdansk City - definately a city to visit during summer. Gdansk is a part of tri-city Gdynia-Sopot-Gdansk, with wonderful restaurants, bars, beaches and lots of shopping. Gdansk architecture is the same as Amsterdam, incl. renaissance. Go to the harbour area which is very lively during summer. Or go on a shopping spree in one of the many shopping centres - the best one situated just around the corner from the hotel. City of Gdansk is well known for its history - Westerplatte, where 2. World War started. Shipyard and Solidarinocs - which truly gave Poles their freedom. Tour outside the cities should go to Malbork - Teutonic Castle, please allow a full day for this. You can go by train - central station situated just across the street from the Holiday Inn.
Holiday Inn - What a wonderful hotel, high standard of service, very friendly staff and location is simply the best.
This was my second stay in Gdansk - I will definately go back.
