Stayed here one night in April 2008. Directions on the hotel website weren't the most helpful - they did not include clear directions for those using public transport instead of taxis/cars. If you are doing so, get the number 7 or 8 tram from the Hauptbanhof to Stauffenbergallee. When you get off the tram, walk back to the big traffic junction and take a right, going under the bridge, and you'll be at the hotel in a couple of minutes.
Check-in staff were fine, although they didn't acknowledge or give me any benefit to being a Priority Club member. Room was spacious, clean, tidy. Though the bedspreads were a little basic for a proper hotel.
The restaurant in the hotel, "Stephans" (surely missing an apostrophe!), was not great. Not much wrong with the food - although an overly-fancy menu was lost on me (I had the only decipherable 'normal' item - burger and fries). The service, however, was dreadful - slow, robot-like (not in efficiency, mind you) and when you needed a member of wait staff, they were never anywhere to be seen. I was charged 4 euros for a 300ml bottle of still water, which is pretty outrageous. That was *after* I had asked them to remove the 6 euros for a cocktail I didn't have, which had somehow appeared on the bill. I chose not to pay the 17 euros for breakfast, having seen how poor the service was for dinner.
On the plus side, there was free, fast wireless internet throughout the hotel, and they were happy to watch my bags for me for the whole day after check-out as I was getting an overnight train.

My son and I stayed here on a last minute holiday trip to see my daughter. We picked the hotel for price and rating. It turned out to be a great location - off the beaten path, but very close to the bus system that appears to run around the clock. It turned out to be just a few blocks from the daughter's apartment. It is located in Neustadt, rather than the older part of the city. There is a lot of graffiti in the neighborhood area, but it is very well lighted and we always felt safe walking to transportation. We took the bus to the train station (to go to the airport) at 4:30 AM and it was easy and cheap.
The rooms were new, warm, and cozy. The staff was very helpful. The breakfast was very pricey but there was free coffee and tea both in the room and in the lobby. Since there are bakeries on every street, it was easy to grab a quick bite. There is a full restaurant and bar in the hotel. We didn't eat there, but it looked good!
A few last suggestions about beautiful Dresden - get a train/bus pass for the week. It made getting around so easy. And learn a little German - not everyone there speaks English like I have found in bigger cities.

A clean, affordable, value for money hotel. It's located outside the city centre at a distance that is too far to walk if you want to get there quickly. A tram stop, with regular trams, is situated 5 mins away. There are no restaurants or bars nearby so the hotel does feel a bit isolated.
On my second day I took the 2hr train journey to Prague and wished I stayed there instead and visited Dresden as a day trip.
Having said that I think the hotel is perfect as a base for anyone wishing to explore other areas of Saxony as well as Dresden.

My wife and I used the Holiday Inn as our base for a four-day visit to Dresden, Meissen, and Morizberg. Although located a bit of a distance from the "Old Town" with its major tourist sites, the Holiday Inn is still fairly convenient, since the tram stop is only about a five minute walk away and tickets can be purchased at the hotel desk (ask for a ticket good for the entire day.) If you enjoy walking, the thirty or forty minute trek from the hotel to the river is a pleasant experience that permits one to see some of the real, "non-touristy" neighborhoods. The nearby train station in the "New Town" is a good place to catch trains and buses to other towns for day-trips.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Since the hotel was not crowded when we were there, they upgraded us to the "executive floor level." The room was spotlessly clean and had in-room coffee/tea. The buffet breakfast was a bit pricey, but the food selection and quality was great, so good for an occasional splurge, especially since we often do not stop touring to have lunch. The outstanding feature for me was the spa (with indoor pool and sauna), which is open late and very relaxing after a long day of walking, sightseeing, and attending concerts. The first couple of days we were there, the weather was warm and sunny, but then turned cold and snowed. Returning to the hotel after treking around in the cold, it was nice to warm up in the sauna and swim while watching the snow fall on the glass roof over the pool.

We stayed in this Holiday Inn in 2005. Two years later, in February, 2007, we tried to book it for the following May. It was already full!!. Which shows two things. It's popular, with a loyal clientele, and Dresden itself has become a big tourism success story (though still mainly for Germans) since the rebuilt Frauenkirche opened two years ago. It's a clean, modern, reasonably priced hotel in Dresden Neustadt - the historic "new town" with its own artists' village - on the other side of the Elbe from Dresden proper. The're's only one minor problem. The nearest tram stop is a 10-minute walk from the hotel (or less, if you're fitter than me!), and then it's a 10-minute ride across the Elbe bridge to the Semper Opera square. But this apparent disadavantage becomes an advantage, as you see the incomparable Dresden panorama (the one in all the classic paintings!) laid out before you as you go into town every day. It's some view, believe me!
