Our family of 5 stayed at this hotel recently. This hotel was great for our family with all it had to offer (pool, kids eat free at Applebees, workout room, etc). The hotel is within walking distance to main street Durango, plenty of restaurants and the train. There is also a very nice path that goes along the river right behind the hotel. We had a poolside room, which was nice because it opened up towards the courtyard and was very quiet. Even though this is an "older style" hotel with rooms that open up to the outside, the hotel is very nice and doesn't have an old or cheap feel to it at all.

Very nice, clean, comfortable, quiet room for family of 5 with 3 kids under 12. Aaaahhh....zzzzz.
Room with river view. Walking distance to train.
Only objection was that the waiter at attached Applebee's restaurant served the kids regular sized beverages, which he then charged us for, instead of serving the kid-sized that were supposed to be free with their meals. Kids under 12 eat free, but It ended up making the bill about the same as if the kids meals were NOT free.
Also, be aware that kids' meals are not free if you do take out either…we wanted breakfast to go so we could take it and eat it on the train, but then kids' meals are not free.
Applebee's is very generous with the quantity of food though. None of us could finish our breakfasts! Could have literally split the breakfasts in half and we'd have all had enough!

LOCATION - GREAT - WALK TO THE HISTORICAL CITY CENTER
HOTEL - It was "fine" The property is old and worn.
Our check-in went smooth until my friend came back and showed me our room (#200) on the end next to the road. Went back to the front desk and asked if it's noisy and was told it was not. "the city shuts down at 11pm" He didn't mention what time the city wakes up...
When I pulled my sheets down I found socks in the bed. (The linens were clean-looked like the socks went thru the wash) Plus I was too tired to address the issue that night.
The next morning I presented the socks to the front deck, questioned the noise and lack of sleep I received. Manager on duty told me it was considered a noisy room.
I'm not a complainer, but at check out I nicely adressed the issues and asked what kind of compensation I would receive. The manager comped me one night and I thanked him.
I then reminded them that I was a travel agent and an employee of AAA for the past 16 years.

The best thing about this hotel was the location - walking distance to some great restaurants on Main Ave. The room was clean although a friend commented on his room having a smoky smell. The other downside was mattress: I felt I was gonna slide off at times. Still glad we stayed there though. It was nice to have the view of the Amimas river behind the parking lot.

Stayed here with a large group and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the room and the furnishings. It was much better than I anticipated. This is the older motel type Holiday Inn so some rooms open up onto parking lot, but your also right on the river so its sort of a tradeoff. The only negative is the attached Applebees's Rest. They are never fast under the best of times but they seemed overwhelmed by groups filling the restaraunt at all hours. There is a Dennys one block down the road, but that aside the hotel and facilities were just fine and I plan to return.
