We stayed at the Holiday Inn-Binghamton on Hawley St over the 4th of July weekend for a family wedding in the area. The location is very nice - right on the Chenango River (we walked down to see the ducks + geese several times), and is within walking distance by a path to a park at the confluence of the Chenango and Susquehanna River. The maintenance and cleaning staff were top-notch, fixing an AC problem in our room immediately upon request, and prioritizing cleaning our room the day of the wedding so we could get ready in time. The indoor pool is nice and fairly large, with an outdoor patio overlooking the Chenango River. Our 8th floor room (priority club) was comfortable and had a nice view of the river and surrounding area. Sunday brunch was quite good, with plenty of options, but as usual was overpriced. I felt that the front desk staff could have done more to make checking in smoother. One staff member in particular appeared new, or unsure of how to work with the hotel's reservation system, and several reminders had to be conveyed to the desk staff about the proper distribution of gift bags for out of town guests. Past complaints on this site about bug problems, smoking, etc appear to have been handled - although, and this was my fault - I left out some candy overnight on the last night, and managed to attract several small ants. On the whole if you're in Binghamton and need a place to stay, this Holiday would be a reasonably safe choice.

This hotel was a disaster from the start. When we contracted in May for our club to stay at this hotel we had 9 rooms held at the USSS rate for the National competition during the end of june-first part of July. The hotel lost our contract, when we called to reconfirm the reservations, and told us that the only rooms available for our stay were the executive level rooms. Due to the number of rooms we needed, we agreed to this change.
When we arrived on June 27th at 4:30pm, we were informed that our rooms were not ready yet. We said that wasn't a problem, but requested that we be as near eachother as possible. He then informed us that he had rooms available for us and gave us our keys. We went to our rooms and found that we did not have the microwave and refrigerator in our room as was explained in the contract agreement. When we got down to the lobby, there were a large number of American Legion people at the front desk. We went to dinner and would discuss the room issue when we returned. When we got back to the hotel, we informed them of the room issue and we were told that those rooms were no longer available and that he "tried to accomodate us" by putting us closer together, but never told us that we were being downgraded in our room type. I asked what our new rate would be since we are in a lower level room and Zack, the front desk worker, informed us that there would be no rate change because according to our contract, we only had 2 double queens requested, and that our group had been upgraded to the executive level, because that was the only rooms available. I explained to him the ordeal with the contract. He said that they couldn't do anything about that now because the rooms are no longer available to us. We requested that the rooms be changed when the rest of our group arrived on Sunday. He said maybe, but probably not.
Well, as far as the housekeeping, there was a orange juice carafe and cup in the hallway on Friday afternoon, when we got there, it was still there on Sunday, even after we called because house keeping hadn't come on Saturday until after 6pm and by then we were in our room for the night and just asked for towels. On Sunday, when we addressed the changing of rooms, We were informed by Rachel that we would be moved and that after explaining the situation to her, told us that the rate would be slightly lower for those nights. When we got back, that afternoon, I checked on our rooms because housekeeping was here to clean, I told her that I believed that we were moving to a different room and that I hated for her to clean it and have to clean it again. Well, Rachel called and told us our rooms were ready, I went downstairs to get the keys, Zack basically yelled at me saying that They are moving one of our rooms but that was all they were able to do and that no one from our group needed to come down and ask because they were not moving anyone else. I asked that the coaches room be moved and not mine, because I felt it was more important for the coaches to be with the rest of the group. The change was made and that was over. We informed the cleaning lady that we were not moving and she cleaned the bathroom and gave us towels and made the beds. The juice carafe in the hall from friday was put in the coaches room, hoping that someone would finally remove it. Well, it was removed from their room, and set back out in the hall. From Friday till Monday, the Juice carafe was in the hall and never was the hall vacuumed or our rooms for that matter. When the coaches were moved at 6:30 pm, The new room had breakfast dishes in the hall outside their room. Only God knows how long these had been there. The place was dirty and very mismanaged. Zack was very rude and acted very put out by the whole matter. Rachel at least saw that the room charge was lessened. The cleanliness of the hotel was rediculous. We have always been happy with Holiday Inns in the past and I thought that it was important for you to have standards that the owners must follow. The place was disgusting. Had this not been a team event where the group had to stay together, We would have changed hotels in an instant.

My parents, siblings and their families returned to our hometown only to be disappointed by our stay. The experience of the food, the cleanliness and the service sent a message that mediocrity is acceptable in this 3-star hotel. The breakfast buffet was cold and some items were not available on a daily basis. The service was awful. The cleaning staff did not clean the rooms each day and the staff was unprofessional. Staff members congregated around the hotel lobby desk or the restaurant and chatted. The lobby bathrooms had paper towels strewn on the dirty floors and it smelled bad. This hotel does not represent our hometown of Binghamton well.

For a hotel posing itself as an upscale accommodation, it is obvious that someone is clueless.
Cleanliness - Rate it 2 out of 5: Rugs in lobby and elevator were littered with debris. The room itself was obviously not vacuumed since the previous inmate. Trash in bureau draw. Condoms left in desk draw (fortunately not yet used).
Accommodation: Rate it 2 out 5: Bathroom micro-sized. One small bottle of shampoo - one small hand soap - none in shower. Lots of towels squeezed onto a single towel bar. Televison did work.
Tissue box in bathroom -empty.
Plastic glasses so thin that they'll pop out of your hand when filled. One package of regular coffee - your partner will have to have decaff whether she/he wants it or not. ONE sugar per package - if you need more - wire home.
Wireless Internet access - slower than AOL in 1996. Three minutes for pages to load.
Swimming pool - great - but you need to go to the front desk for access and the door is cluttered with signs telling you what you can and can't do. Same with Fitness Center.
BAR: Rate it 3 out of 5 (nice ambiance). Bartenders had just heard of something called 'single malt scotch'. They carry ONE brand. Martini - couldn't have been samller unless it was poured in a shot glass.
COMPLAINTS: All night party held either in the hotel or in bars adjacent to the hotel means you WON'T BE GETTING ANY SLEEP.
Vending - Pepsi only - $2.00 per bottle.
Room cost: $130 bucks for one night for a room so small that you have to wait your turn to get by the bed to look out the window.
COURTESY: Rate it 4 out of 5. No complaints except for surly bartender.
POSITIVES: Room air conditioner was perfect - best we've ever experienced.
Location is conducive to bars and restaurants within walking distance. Lots going on.
Advice: Book something on Vestal Parkway - it'll be cheaper and you'll get some sleep.
