My husband and I stayed here this past weekend, and we had a fantastic stay. I'm surprised by all the negative reviews here, actually. The room was clean and modern, the bed was supremely comfortable and the location can't be beat. The staff was accomodating in every way, and the breakfast was very good. All the food was fresh and nicely presented, and there was even a guy making Belgian waffles. I have to say it's one of the best hotel breakfasts I've had, and I've stayed in many hotels in the US and Europe.
My only complaint is the elevator system, it painfully slow. My husband and I actually preferred to walk up the 6 stories to our room than wait 20 minutes for the elevator!

After booking our room directly with the property and ensuring it a late-arrival would not be a problem, we arrived about 9:30pm to smiling faces and helpful staff from the bellmen to the front desk. We were checked in quickly (very nice with a very sleepy and squirmy baby) and went to our room on the 7th floor ($179/night). Room was nice overall: good bed, space enough for our portable crib, clean bathroom. A few indications that updating is necessary - a cut out for an electrical socket (scary with a crawling baby, but we blocked it during our stay), bumps and bruises on the walls, older carpet. We did not encounter the problems some have reported here with the bathrooms, ventilation or early morning construction. Parking is expensive, but we were able to store our luggage in the car after checking out and leave the car at the hotel until we left mid-afternoon without any difficulty. The bell staff was very helpful and friendly.
Had we not used room service or the hotel restaurant, I would be giving a much more glowing review. Room service closes at 11pm, we called at 10pm for simple sandwiches, hot water for the baby bottle, and iced tea. After about 15 minutes on the phone with a difficult to understand person, we determined that about 75% of the "all day dining" menu was not, in fact, all day available. We settled on something that was available and waited over 45 minutes for reheated crab cakes, small iced teas, and no hot water for the baby. The gentleman did go back for the water, but it seemed like a lot of waiting for a little dinner, and very expensive too. The next morning we had breakfast at the hotel as we were running late and needed to eat and go. A paltry buffet was available, anything else would take "at least 20 minutes to prepare" according to the staff. We ate what we could (my husband doesn't eat pork so the bacon/sausage choices were out), and wished we had that $40+ back. The staff was friendly, but the coffee was cold (not just for us - we heard other patrons complaining) at 9:30 am, there were flies roaming about, and I had to find my own highchair.
For those with small children, there are no changing facilities available in the public bathrooms. My little one was changed smack dab in the middle of the hotel lobby on a couch, at the suggestion of the front desk clerk (we had already checked out of our room when nature called).
Overall a nice hotel, but I wouldn't eat there. We made it work with a baby, but it really is more of a business hotel geared for those working with the embassies.

My family and I were at the hotel for a 3-day conference, with an extra day of sightseeing beforehand. The hotel charged the conference rate ($179 per night, plus taxes) for the 3 nights, and charged the rack rate ($420, after taxes) for the prior night, even though they discounted nights afterward.
Notes: 1. Internet is $12.95 per night. Poor form for a $400-per-night hotel.
2. Our room wasn't ready until after 4 PM.
3. Toilet water level was so high that the guys in the family were made most uncomfortable, and had to adjust in most unusual ways.
4. The room was nearly dark. At this price, a few more lights would have been nice.
5. Staff ranged from merely OK to cordial.
6. Well-located. A WONDERFUL running path on P and 23rd, 3 blocks away, that runs along the Rock Creek Parkway, combining with the Mt. Vernon Bike Trail. PERFECT place for runners or bikers.
7. 1.8 miles to Georgetown, through lovely neighborhoods.
Next time, we'll stay at the Hotel Palomar or Residence Inn, each a block closer to the running path.

Stayed here in 2004, mostly due to the location (close to the Dupont Circle metro, Rock Creek Park and Embassy Row a good running location) but left after only a few days due to bed bugs biting up my legs. Construction was going on then, so I couldn't change rooms. Didn't try it again on later trips to DC, now that I live in the area, I wouldn't recommend it unless hearing that things have changed.

This hotel was clean, in a great location and had a friendly staff. I was worried after reading complaints about early morning construction noise but there was none during my stay. The room and the hall could have used new carpet but the room was very clean. Each time I went in the lobby, one of the staff asked if I needed help with anything. The elevators looked a little slow but my room was on the second floor so the stairs were not a problem. The surrounding neighborhood had great restaurants, two entries to the metro and was pleasant to walk around in at any time of the day.
