We had a nice time in Galveston for the 4th. We didn't make reservations until the week before, therefore, alot of hotels were already booked. We paid $309.00 a night for the Hilton which is on the high side but the room was very nice. We stayed on the 7th floor in the tower and the view was nice. The air conditioning worked fine, we ordered room service 3 times for late night treats for the kids and it was very good - even the pizza. We ordered a pay for view movie - the audio wasn't the best. You are not allowed to take coolers into the hotel, so upon check in I asked for a refrig for an additional $10.00/day but they never brought and I never followed up on as we just kept cooler in car and brought up orange juice and water bottles at night to get us through the evening. We were able to see the fireworks right from the front of the hotel and we went down to the pool once for a quick dip and a drink at the swim up bar. We went to Saltwater Grill for dinner - was great!!!! Marios for dinner was also very good. Fisherman's wharf was good - not much of a view and basic fried food. We did the comedy magic show at Moody Gardens - really enjoyed !!

We stayed at the Hilton for a getaway the weekend of June 28th, '08, and were quite pleased with the room itself, it was very clean, tastefully decorated, roomy, and the beds were comfortable. The shower had very low pressure, that was our only complaint. The pool area was great with a swim up bar and attractive waterfall, plenty of lounge chairs, our only complaint with the pool is that the bottom of it was way too rough, my husband and son's feet were full of abrasions from it, it definitely needs sanding down. We, as many people do, travel with our laptop computer, and there is a charge for internet at this hotel, it's just another way for them to squeeze more money out of their guests and it's not right, internet should be included in the room rates. I have to echo the other reviews in praising the door men/valet's, they were so pleasant and nice, and they don't walk to get your car, they run.

We stayed at the Hilton May, 2008. The king size room was very spacious with island resort decor. The bedding was very lush and soft and flat screen tv also nice. There wasn't a refrigerator or microwave in the room. Our "view" was of the parking lot, so that was disapointing. Information from the front desk was also a little slow. The room included a continental breakfast, which we enjoyed. For $7 more you could have the buffet, but we were happy with the complimentary breakfast which included oatmeal, danish, fruit, juice and coffee. Parking for the hotel was easy and never a problem. We never swam in the pool, but it looked nice with swim-up bar. Our only and main complaint was the A/C in the room was VERY loud and didn't seem to keep the room at a consistant temp, as it was either a bit stuffy or too cold. They were also doing construction on the floor above, but that seems to just be our luck when we travel?!? Overall, a very nice hotel, just a loud A/C.

Hotel grounds and interior are clean but in need of updating. It did appear that they were in the beginning stages of a phased in remodel.
Location is next to convention center, Rainforest Cafe, Landry's, and San Luis Resort.
Bellmen were awesome. I had limited interaction with other staff.
We stayed in the tower. All rooms seem to have ocean view. The bed was very good. Toiletries were Crabtree & Evelyn. Room was large with sitting area. TV was tube type and did not accommodate plugins like DVD or Video game systems.
Pool was resort type pool with bar service. Lobby Bar had piano.
My only complaint is that the hotel charges for petty items. The business center has a couple computers for internet access. However, you must swipe a credit card for payment prior to using. (I think it was about $0.99/minute). I've never stayed in any hotel were there was a charge for the business center computers. Very annoying. I also noticed the in room phone had posted per minute charges for local calls.

Salmonella poisoning and illness

A co-worker and I stayed at this facility from 04/27/08-05/02/08 for a conference. My co-worker contracted salmonella poisoning from eating at this hotel. I also became ill from eating at this hotel. Not only did we get sick but had to endure massive construction taking place at the facility, which we were not informed of until we arrived, and the water was turned off for one day. We were notified the night before.
You cannot turn the temp up in the rooms past 60 degrees or else the a/c will emit a horrible mold smell.
The Hilton's response to all of this (cost of stay, contracting illness, loss of pay from work due to illnesses) is a GENERIC FORM LETTER apologizing for the "inconvenience".
My fault was not paying attention to the unbiased reviews about the hotel that I read. If you stay here, beware!
