We got a great Hotwire price on this hotel and were very pleased. I love big, old, downtown, pile-of-bricks hotels like this. We had a great room with great service at a fair price in this lively well-maintained 1927-vintage hotel.
It started with the parking ramp. Even in the usual five-star places, the first impression you often get is a dingy, creepy parking ramp. Not so here. We had an easy stroll to the elevator and a pleasant walk past a garden area to the lobby. The staff greeted us warmly. We got a call an hour or so after check-in to make sure everything was OK.
The beds were very comfortable. The shower was robust and stimulating.
The hotel was buzzing with baseball fans, people attending the opening of the new Harley museum, figure skaters, soccer players, etc. But hallway noise was not a problem, and we enjoyed the atmosphere. The MIlwaukee Chop House has excellent steaks. The Miller Time Pub is a busy sports bar with decent food until late at night.
Milwaukee is fun to visit, and I enthusiastically recommend this hotel.

First I have to agree with a previous review that said that they would stay again in this hotel but not for $150 a night. I ended up paying $125 a night because I had a coupon from Expedia and now I realize after staying there that I overpaid. $100 or less is what I feel one should pay for this hotel in this location.
Now having said that, the pros and cons of this hotel are as follows.
Pros: location, location, location. I took the 80 bus from the airport (25 min bus ride, $2, can't beat that) and it left me right on the corner on 6th street and Wisconsin Ave. The 90 bus to Miller Park is right outside the hotel on Wisconsin Avenue (again, $4 r/t to the ballpark, can't beat that). There's a mall a block and a half down, the waterfront is a 10 min walk tops, Third Ward is also about a 5-8 min walk. Pretty much you can walk anywhere you want from this hotel and I felt pretty safe all weekend walking around.
Service, despite what others wrote, I didn't have any problems with service. The young lady who handled my check in was fantastic and my room was serviced and everything replaced.
The room is very nice and the bed is very comfortable and I didn't find the bathroom to be that small (maybe cause I'm used to bathrooms being that size in NYC).
Cons: The shower was very squeaky and it turns out that this is a problem in other rooms because I could hear when folks in other rooms turned on their showers. The toilet also flushed very loud. You could also hear noise in the hallways and the doors closed loudly. Luckily I wasn't on a loud floor (everyone around me pretty much was settled in by midnight - also maybe cause there's nothing else to do in Milwaukee). The first night I was there, I did smell cigarette smoke coming in my room and didn't know if it was coming thru the vents or from the hallway. I cranked up the AC and luckily the smell went away.
All in all my weekend was quite nice, filled with sightseeing (took the 90 min boat ride with Milwaukee Boat Line on the river and lake, very nice ), and baseball games. Would have gone to Summerfest but didn't like the band line up while I was there. Heard from others that it was a great time as well. Also couldn't have asked for better weather.
FYI, breakfast at the hotel is typical hotel prices so if you want an inexpensive diner, there's one on Wisconsin Avenue and 7th St (about a block and a half away from the Hotel) and there's also a Dunkin Donuts across the street from the diner. If you opt for the diner, exercise some patience as they are quite laid back and get a little bit frazzeled when large crowds arrive but all in all paid $6 for breakfast vs. $15 in the hotel if I would have ate there. Also there are tons of great restaurants all around downtown so venture out to eat.
If my future travels find me in Milwaukee again, I'd definitely stay here again.

I travel a lot throughout the year and the places I remember the most are not the ones who have the fanciest places, greatest restaurants, or spectacular locations but it’s the simple things that make me remember and comment on because they are out of the ordinary. One would never imagine that something as silly as a soft towel can make such a big impression, and this place did. Softest towels, excellent bets, fluffy pillows made the stay a memorable one. Sure, it was a great location and had lots of amenities but now after a month and five other hotels I still talk about the towels we had at the Hilton. I can’t wait to have the opportunity to go back to this hotel and have that wonderful experience again.

Overall, this is a nice place. Clean, great location, and I didn't get the dingy, outdated feel that others did.
Pros: Water park, although didn't use it. Nice indoor mall short walk away, walking distance to restaurants. Beds are very comfortable, and the room/bathroom were clean. There is a Starbucks inside the hotel (!) We stayed 2 nights and our total was $301.
Cons: The main problem we encountered was the extremely paper-thin walls. You could hear every person coming/going, and every conversation held the entire length of the hallway.
They had wi-fi but charged for it, which I believe is ridiculous.
You need to make sure of your plans before booking. We had to pay for our room in advance, in full, non-refundable. That is a risk, in my opinion.
The bathroom was tiny and was not divided. The sink was located in the closet-sized bathroom. While other places certainly have this same set-up it was IMPOSSIBLE for two people to fit in there unless someone was in the shower.
All this being said, I do not mean for it to sound like it is a dump and a horrible place to stay. I'm merely stating the facts. We would stay there again if we weren't so into trying different hotels all the time.

Overall this was quite a nice hotel and a pleasant stay. We stayed for one night for a wedding with a special packaged deal, so the price was right.
The main hotel lobby is beautiful and clean and the staff was very nice and helpful. We checked in early at 1pm and had no problem getting a room (good thing since the wedding started at 2pm).
Our room was clean, but quite small. I'm not sure why we were expecting a slightly larger room, but for some reason we were. We had a room with a single king bed, small table and chair, a TV and bathroom. Amazingly, there was no closet - that might have been hard if we had needed to hang up any nice clothing. The bathroom was small overall, but there was plenty of room in the shower. The main part of the bathroom was very clean, but there was some mildew stains on the tile in the shower.
Overall this was a very nice stay, but I'm not sure if it would be worth full price of the room. Maybe an upgraded room would be nicer. We weren't unhappy though, hence the 4 stars.
