We stayed at the Hilton Austin for three nights (end of June/beginning of July) and found it very nice. I don't know if it was an unusually low-use time of year, but we barely saw any other guests. Our room was absolutely silent and we were always almost the only people at the front desk, in the coffee shop or at the pool.
Decor: The lobby and adjacent areas are lovely. Our room, while not giant, was certainly a decent size and very nicely decorated. Our room, the whole hotel, in fact, was spotlessly clean.
View: As requested, we were given a room on a high floor. We asked for a nice view and we did have a view of the lake but the geography of the hotel is such that you look over hotel roofs and the pool and the lake is off in the distance.
Pool: We used the pool every day and it was fine. The pool and hot tub areas were very clean and towels were clean, large and abundant. We didn't use the gyms but they looked well appointed. There was a bar gazebo at the pool but it wasn't in use, which was too bad because it would have been nice to be able to order drinks or snacks. You could go inside to the health club area and get ice water or coffee (cold the one time I tried it) and there was a bowl of fruit, but I would have preferred to be able to order. Magazines and newspapers were available for guests.
Service: We had excellent service. Everyone was friendly and helpful from desk clerks to door men, and the floor maid was especially helpful to me when I asked for a favour.
Location: As we'd never been to Austin before, we were unfamiliar with the layout of the city. For the most part, it was very walkable to the Warehouse District, 6th Street, and the Capitol Building. We hadn't rented a car but found cabs convenient and inexpensive, although it's not easy to flag on one the street and we usually called from a restaurant or cell phone. The walk to South Congress was a bit too far so we took cabs there and back.
If I could change anything about this Hilton, it would be that the pool area really needs drinks and food service.
Generally, we enjoyed our stay at this Hilton. I've only recently become a Hilton Honors member and learned on check-in that I wouldn't be earning points for this stay because I'd booked through a third party, expedia. That was fine. I was very pleased and surprised to receive an email from Hilton Honors on my return home, reminding me of this policy but telling me that they would, on this one occasion give me the Austin points. I thought that was excellent customer service on their part.
I'd recommend this hotel.

I stayed at this hotel for a convention - it is located directly across the street from the convention center. The hotel is very nice and the internet easy to access. In addition, my experience with the room service was very good - the selection of vegetarian options was relatively extensive considering this is still Texas. The spa area is beautiful and I highly recommend the pool. The cardio isn't much to talk about but it did get me 2 thirty minute workouts to burn off the heavy convention food.
The staff was really stand-out at the hotel. From the woman who checked me in, the spa staff who found me a magazine to read or the just generally cheerful coffee shop staff, not one of them looked like this was "just a job". They seemed to actually enjoy their jobs and want to make my stay a pleasant one.
All in all, this is a lovely chain hotel, and an excellent choice if you need to be near the convention center or downtown.

If you are planning a meeting in Austin, avoid this hotel. There is a huge problem between sales and convention services. The location is fantastic and the property is very nice. However, the staff does not deliver on promises, they do not tell the truth, they start most sentences out with "I am so sorry"....and they are only interested in making the quick buck--not interested in repeat business. It is a shame since location is so desirable. I will never book my groups there again! Management needs to get in touch with the employees....they are on OPPOSITE sides of the spectrum! Even though I brought a huge amount of the revenue to this hotel and I completed an honest evaluation as requested, not a single person in management contacted me about the experience. Such a shame.

This hotel works like a charm. I just returned from a 7-night stay and I have seldom come across a hotel -- Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton included -- that has such excellent service. Every request I made was met immediately and the staff noticeably bent over backwards to provide the very best. The effort was noticeable. An example: One night, for whatever reason, the hotel restaurant, the Yankee Tavern, was short on staff. Within 5 minutes, a manager was dispatched from the front desk to take orders and room service waiters were redeployed. It was admirable.
The rooms are also very nice -- well appointed and quiet -- and the Hilton has an extremely nice pool.
I would definitely stay there again!
