The room we had was a two-room suite, with a king sized bed in one room (with the bathroom attached), and the living room/kitchen in the other. I'd probably stay here again, but only if we got it at a really good rate. I don't think I'd pay more than $80/night.
Pros: I loved having a celing fan in the bedroom, and the bed itself was pretty comfortable. Nice hotel staff, good location to be able to navigate from. Not a whole lot within walking distance, which would have been nice, but not a breaking point for me. The property definitely looks like it used to be an aprtment complex...which really isn't a big deal. It had a nice-looking pool, although I never got to use it.
Cons: Our smoke detector was dismantled and hanging down from the ceiling, which wasn't exactly safe. We had issues adjusting the A/C at first. The room was *WAY* too hot when we arrived. I don't remember what it was set on, but it was not high enough for the 100+ degrees it was outside. We quickly adjusted it, but when we moved the A/C switch it colder, it automatically moved the heat switch to hotter. Huh? We finally worked it out and got the room cooled off. The bathroom was pretty small, and our tub was stained and there was tape on the door keeping the latch part from coming off. Easy enough to fix...but just weird.... The buildings were horribly numbered though, and it took us forever to find our room!

After scanning several hotels in the area to attend a family reunion, we managed to find a pretty good deal at the Homewood Suites by Hilton. I read the reviews..(and have even written a few myself...good and bad). But I have to admit, the hotel was better than I expected. First, it was right around the corner from the reunion host hotel, which was very convenient. Also convenient was a huge variety of restaurants and shopping. When we arrived, the room we booked wasn't quite ready, but to compensate, they upgraded our 1-BR suite to a 2-BR/2 BTH suite with all the amenities. Total check-in time was less than 2 minutes. The room did have that "old" kinda smell when you entered, but it was tolerable (and forgotten after a few minutes). The rooms were clean, so were the bathrooms. The beds were comfortable. The property appeared to have been an apartment complex at one point. Our room was right on the front on the 1st level, so we were able to park right in front of our door. We did experience some noise, but not from the street (at times, we could hear the heavy footsteps of guests above us). Our kids loved the pool. The pool area was fairly clean and accommodating. The complimentary breakfast was decent enough...a couple of hot items (bacon, sausage, eggs, and/or biscuits) with the usual waffles and all the other compliments that come with it..breads, pastries, cereals, hot cereals, etc., etc. If the hotel is fully booked, it will get crowded during breakfast. Our last couple of days saw a huge reduction in the number of guests, since the weekend was over, so breakfast from that point on was pretty good.....hardly anyone around. Not many other complaints....other than communication with the hotel staff (it can get a little frustrating when the staff doesn't understand simple requests). It's not the Ritz Carlton, but for the same price, we would probably visit there again.

I have stayed at this hotel many times over the last 10 or 11 years. I would give my first few visits 4 or 5 stars. But my latest stay was dissapointing. The staff at the desk was friendly.
The room was not exactly clean. When we unfolded the sofa bed a menagerie of stuff fell out on the floor. The appliances were showing their age and the fridge had a foul odor. The bathroom did not have a crisp look to it, there was buildup in the corners, etc. There was a missing tile.
We asked for a quite room, overlooking the pond if possible. Well, we were overlooking the pond so I guess that is 1/2 right. We were right next to a set of stairs and a noisy sidewalk that kept busy well into the night. We checked in early in the afternoon and you would think that a quiter room would have been available.
They were having an unseasonably warm weekend during our stay. The air conditioning did not work. Of course I did not realize this until after my two children were asleep so there was no changing rooms at that point.
We left early and did not complete our stay at this hotel. I figured if we were going to have to change rooms we might was well change hotels as well.

Although it's my first time at this one, this is the 5th Homewood Suites that I've stayed in, and I've never been disappointed. This location is no different. I stayed for a week on business, and was very happy with the location. I was only 5 minutes away from where I had to go every day for training classes, and there were loads of restaurants-all kinds-within 5-15 minutes of the hotel. Breakfast served was always very good-although I chose to dine out for suppers, and didn't take advantage of the managers welcome reception-it wasn't because it wasn't tempting, I just wanted to experience the Charlotte dining arena. If you go straight up from the hotel-all the way up N Tryon, you reach uptown Charlotte. As always, the rooms were very spacious, and I actually had a fireplace in the room. Everyone at the desk was always very pleasant and helpful with great places to eat. The rooms were very clean-and I can't think of one thing to improve on. I found out I have to go back to Charlotte twice next year, and Homewoods is were I'm heading.

Good location for Verizon Ampitheater

We stay at many Hilton properties, being a Hilton Honors member. This Homewood Suite is somewhat different than most, it is set up more like an apartment complex, and surprisingly the suites are not as large as most Homewoods. One of our suites was not ready at check-in, and after four phone calls - we finally were told the room was clean, 40 minutes after check-in time. This was a little frustrating, in addition to our non-smoking preference not being honored and had showed confirmed on reservation. The property could have used some renovations, our bedspread was torn, wallpaper stained. The breakfast was simple but good. The hotel location is the best feature, in a nice area of Charlotte, among malls, good restaurants and Verizon Ampitheater.
