Good location, close proximity to restaurants and grocery shopping. We got there early and had to come back later since our room was not ready. When we did get in our room, it was on the ground floor facing the pool. I hated it! I felt like the people at the pool were looking in my room and if I ever stay here again, I would ask for an upper floor room. The hotel was completely booked, so we couldn't get another room. Also, I had a problem with the air conditioning. No matter how cold I would set it, it would start creeping back up. It was getting so hot in the room, I was in a sweat. I went down to the lobby to complain, and they informed me the person that checked me in forgot to activate the system. In other words, my temperature was locked in at 78 degrees through the computer. They supposedly fixed it, but over the three days we never could get it to stay at a comfortable temperature and I felt we couldn't leave the window open because we were on the ground floor. Thank goodness we really weren't in the room much!
On the upside, the room was very spacious and clean. The kitchen was better stocked than most Suite type properties. Plenty of soap for cleaning, dishrags, towels, etc. Also, the bathroom amenities were plentiful. One odd thing was that the room slept 4 but they only left towels for three. I kept having to ask for more towels. They were provided with a smile, but you'd think they would automatically have enough towels for the amount of people in the room.
The breakfast was decent and plentiful. Biscuits and gravy, fruit, yogurt, scrambled eggs, sausage, breakfast bars, etc. All in all, for Bakersfield, this place is probably the best you'll find for the money. For Homewood Suites, I've stayed in better.

I have stayed in 4 Bakersfield hotels, and this one was definitely the nicest. This is a popular hotel that books up fast. In fact, one of the nights we wanted to stay here, it was overbooked by 7 rooms! So if you check in late, you're not guaranteed a room.
Everything seemed modern and new, including the lobby and our room. Our room was the quietest Bakersfield hotel room I've ever stayed in, where we heard just a tiny bit of noise from the room above, and hardly any outside noise. Unlike most Bakersfield hotel rooms, this one is largely out of earshot of trains and freeways.
Our room included a kitchen with full-sized refrigerator, microwave oven, range and dishwasher, and basic dishes and utensils. The living room area was small but functional. The pillowtop mattress was amazingly comfortable. Our room was mostly clean except for some dust and hairs in some corners, and a hair from a previous guest left in the sink.
There were several strange things about our room: There was no wall switch to turn on the lights in the bedroom, so we had to walk across the room to switch on the bedstand lamps. The sheets and mattress cover were the wrong size for the bed, and kept popping off the corners at the head of the bed. Also, our room was the handicapped room, and the showerhead was quite low (no higher than 5 feet up and not adjustable.)
Re. hotel amenities:
* There was a coin laundry with (I think) 4 washers at $1.00 each.
* The small gym had several working treadmills, an elliptical trainer, exercise bike, and free weights. The free weights were at 5 lb. intervals, so can be difficult for women who generally require 2.5 lb intervals.
* My partner reports that the complimentary breakfast was better than average for hotel breakfasts.
Hotel location: In walking distance to Cal. State Bakersfield and an upscale shopping center called The Marketplace, with several restaurants including a fast food Japanese place, Mexican food, Tahoe Joes, and a Vons. There's even a Chico's.
This is a very pleasant, comfortable hotel, and I would not hesitate to stay here again.
Pretty much everything you need for a business stay

As stated by previous reveiwers, this is an excellent, functional hotel. I was staying on my own on a business trip, and had a bedroom, bathroom, separate lounge and little kitchen, equipped with fridge, dishwasher, microwave etc. There is free internet in the rooms via a wired connection, and free wireless in the lobby area. The free breakfast is OK - I would probably put it below average in terms of choice from other free breakfasts I've had, but that's only based on the cold food (cereal, bread, yoghurt, fruit). The cooked stuff might be better - I'm not a cooked breakfast person really. It's perfectly accepable though, and I would certainly say that the complimentary dinner in the evening is surprisingly decent. It's hardly haute cuisine, but there's lots of food made available, beer on tap and wine, and it's all free. They usually do have three course e.g. soup, pot roast, mashed potatoes and green beans, then ice cream, and the food that I tried was OK.
The rooms are clean and well maintained, and it's hard to find anything to complain about. This is my hotel of choice when I visit Bakersfield, but it does book up quite quickly, so I'd advise you to book as soon as you can. It's good value as well, particularly when you factor in the free breakfast and free internet.

The hotel is situated in a very quiet surrounding. With our navigator it was easy to find. At the front desk was a young girl, she was not very forthcoming, but that is hardly to blame considering her age.
We had a one-bedroom suite, the furniture was good and the kitchen had everything, a huge refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, 2-burner stove and enough kitchenware. The bedroom had two beds; the only thing missing here was more lighting. There was only one light in-between the beds. The bathroom was clean and had a bath with shower.
Because we were there on a Sunday there was no complimentary dinner. This is only served from Monday until Thursday. We noticed something special on the monthly menu, as far as we know this is the only Homewood or one of very few who will serve a three-course dinner on the given weekdays.
A short drive away there is a supermarket, Vons, and other shops. The girl at the front desk couldn’t understand that we had troubles with her directions and had to ask again and again. It was already dark and we were tired, so then it is even harder to find your way and listen to left, right, left and so on. There is no map available or other written directions.
The breakfast the next morning was good and also very nice not to have plastic but real tableware.
