I stay at the Homewood Suites in Columbia on a regular basis as I travel there for work frequently. I alternate between this property and the Hampton downtown. I have never had anything but excellent service (especially in the dining area!). Room is always clean, internet service works great (and free!), room is quiet, and very large. I average two nights a month at this property and I still give it a 5. It is about 3 miles from downtown - keep that in mind if you are looking for historic Columbia.

Generally, a comfortable place to stay, but not our best first experience at a Homewood Suites. Check-In As we were checking in, the person behind the counter kept asking a gentlemen on our side of the counter questions about how to process our account. This man was dressed in a jogging suit and we could not tell if he even worked there. At first, he just seemed to be someone hanging out near the check-in and it was a bit offputting. We did not feel comfortable reporting this as a problem to hotel staff. Staff (service, attitude, etc.) Staff was not very friendly at breakfast, seemed a bit bothered by requests even for milk cartons. Suite cleanliness/housekeeping The only problem we actually reported was used coffee filters in the microwave! The front desk said "yuck", and I told them we would take care of it. They didn't offer anything about that, but said they would inform housekeeping. After that, we also found unusual white stains on the carpet, tile near the whirlpool, etc. Noise One morning, we had a call from the front confirming that we were the occupants of the room. Then, two men (one in a maintenance uniform and a male in a suit banged on the door across the hall, so loud that we thought it was our room. The suited male said "open up, manager of security". Not sure what was going on there, but it was unsettling. Room smell Did not smell fresh and even with a faint smell of someone smoking previously in the room.

I enjoyed my 2 night stay. The room was a good size with kitchenette. They had complimentary breakfast and dinner (not much to choose, but complimentary) with beer and wine.

Spent a wonderful night at the Homewood Suites in Columbia SC. The decor was very nice; I believe they must have recently undergone a renovation as everything looked crisp and new. The staff were absolutely wonderful! Howard, especially, was very helpful in choosing a restaurant for the night, providing us with directions, etc. My room was very spacious and relaxing. It was nice having a TV in both the bedroom and the living area. If in the Columbia area again, I would definately stay here again.

This is the second time our family stayed at this Homewood Suites. The first time (2005) we had a king deluxe suite (on the other side of the hotel), which I feel was decorated prettier using a palm tree/southern style. This time we got a room with two queen beds. The decor was just different and definately not fantastic like the first room. I did notice the water damages in the hallway (which makes the paint chip). The front desk was delightful and friendly. We did get (free) rental DVD videos with our first visit, but didn't ask with this visit. The kids still loved the pool with plenty of towels. Very clean through-out. The breakfast was just fine and filled my gang until a late lunch was ordered. It's a surprise location, as you're near car dealers and other retail stores.
