Another great stay at Kings Courtyard Inn! This was our 5th stay in the past 4 years. We love it! The room was great, clean. We were overlooking King St.We had breakfast brought to the room every morning,It was very good.As usual everyone was very nice and helpful. It could not be in a better location.Right in the middle of everything. We went to the SC Aquarium this trip and went on a behind the scenes tour for the sea turtle rescue hospital. It was great. We did do a bus tour with Charleston Tours this time,we did not enjoy it at all ! Don't waste your money. The carriage tours are 100% better and alot more fun.We are so looking forward to our next Charleston trip and Kings Courtyard Inn.

We just returned from beautiful Charleston where we stayed at the Kings Courtyard Inn and loved it. What a great location...it doesn't get better if you want to be centrally located. The staff was very helpful with restaurant suggestions and always responded very promptly and graciously to any of our requests. The room was charming and clean and everything you could need (ironing board, hairdryer, etc) is already there. The afternoon wine and cheese is a wonderful way to start the dinner hour and the breakfast was delicious and very fairly priced. One morning we opted to just have the complimentary breakfast and realized that could have sufficed just fine the other days instead of the egg breakfast we paid for the days before. We'll most definitely be back!

We spent four nights at the King's Courtyard Inn for an anniversary trip to Charleston during Spoleto and found absolutely nothing to complain about.
The hotel reminded me more of a European hotel than a typical American one. It's an old building with a small elevator, an attractive lobby, and two courtyards equipped with metal tables and chairs for eating breakfast or enjoying a bit of pseudo-outdoors time in the shade, and a kidney-shaped spa in back that I never actually saw anyone occupying.
Our room (#206) was on the small side but plenty big for us, and it was bright and cozy with warm wood floors and big windows all along one wall overlooking King St. It had reproduction antique furniture (including a tall queen-size four-poster bed, which they provided a stool for climbing up on), a working fireplace (which we didn't use in late May), a flat screen TV, a large armoire for clothes storage, a table and two arm chairs in the corner, a simple bathroom with separate tub/toilet and sink areas, and free wireless Internet service that actually worked and was speedy. The rooms have real, large brass keys, which was a nice change from those stupid key cards. :) Our room was right by the ice machine and vending machines, but the noise was minimal.
We chose the inn because we prefer historic hotels, and because it was so centrally located. It had convenient parking behind the hotel ($10 a day), and we only had to use our car twice (once for dinner at an out-of-the-way Mexican place and once to go to Magnolia Plantation) because everything was in walking distance or there was a DASH bus stop directly across the street (the Clifford St. stop). The City Market is literally two blocks away from the hotel, yet King St. is pretty quiet at night with all the shops closed, so there's no drunken carousing noise to contend with. The inn itself also seemed quiet - I think we were the most rabble-rousing of the bunch, tipsily eating our dripping ice cream cones from Kilwin's in the parking lot late at night.
Also in easy walking distance are the Four Corners of the Law, Marion Square, Poogan's Porch restaurant, and Museum Mile. Ooh, and there's a very cool gallery on the corner down from the hotel with incredible vintage advertising posters.
As for the staff, those we met were all friendly and helpful. We had breakfast delivered to our room on two mornings - once the free continental breakfast (a basket of yummy pastries and our choice of juice, milk, coffee, etc.), and on our final day tasty omelets. We never ate breakfast downstairs in the dining room with the other guests or participated in the afternoon wine service, so I can't comment on those.
We had a great time at the King's Courtyard and we'd definitely stay there again on another trip to Charleston.

This our 5th stay at Kings Courtyard. We choose to go back to this lovely hotel in the center of Charleston. The service is impeccable, the rooms are exquisite with reproduction (I think--may be antiques) furnishings. The actual building is on the historic register and has been remarkably preserved and restored. Everything is first class. The breakfast is exceedingly generous and the service great. The evening wine and cheese is a pleasant break before going out to dinner. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Charleston!

I do not write many reviews, but after staying at this hotel, I felt it was warrented. The hotel is in a great location right next to market street, on King street where shopping is abudant and close to the battery etc. The hotel is older, but that adds to the charm. The rooms are smaller, but beautifully furnished with fireplaces. The breakfast was excellant and in the evening they have wine and cheese for all the guests. They have a lovely courtyard to sit for breakfast etc. It was very quiet and peaceful. The most important aspect was the service.. OUTSTANDING..it was my mother's birthday and they helped me with flowers in her room and other arrangements. ALL the staff are friendly and helped us with cabs, directions and suggestions for restaurants. I can' t say enough about how quaint the hotel and staff were. I have traveled all over the world and stay in 5 star hotels.. this is great feel for Charleston. If you are looking for a pool or full menu restuarant.. they do not have that.. but many restuarants are within 50 yards. I can't stress how great the location is.
