Everything thing I read about the hotel in most of the reviews is true. Older hotel with the charm (and wear and tear) you'd expect. Best: downtown location with excellent rates ($55 room through Priceline, $7/day valet parking, $7 GOOD breakfast, $3.50 Yuengling beer in the lobby bar you can take up to your room). The rooms have character; if you like an antiseptic, cookie-cutter new hotel, then stay away. Don't come here and whine.Oh, also good: very fast wireless internet, big room, lots of hot water with excellent pressure, and excellent service. Less Best: decor and TV (mine was a 19" old box) could stand an upgrade. With a recently renovated room, I'd rate it excellent.

We were on our way to Hershey, PA for a cheerleading competition. We decided to travel late in the evening to minimize the traffic. We arrived in York, PA around midnight and found a room at the Yorktowne Hotel. We were a little skeptical at first because of it's location in the middle of town. However, we could not have been more pleased with the Hotel or it's staff for helping us with our room. The room was very large and clean. If we were ever to travel back through that part of PA will definitely stay there again.

Really great hotel. Staff was excellent and the hotel itself is charming and has a lot of character. a great change from all the franchise properties we usually end up staying at. Will stop by again if in the area.

Nice common areas, but rooms are a bit shabby

The Yorktowne is the only “hotel” in York. I found the staff very friendly. The hotel was build in the 1920’s and while the common areas are nice, the rooms were a bit shabby. The rooms are very large. They have put in new LCD flat panel TV’s in the rooms. But the carpet, linens, furniture, and bathroom were in need of some renovations/upgrades. I also was upset when I opened my closet and found a bunch of dirty towels that the house keeper must have missed. The fitness room equipment was old and some the equipment was rusty. Parking is valet only at $7 a night for guest. Continental Breakfast was $7 per-person. A nice perk was free Internet access in the room and wifi in the lobby and cheese and fruit is served in the lobby in the evenings. The weekend I went the room rates were $119 a night, but I got a great deal on Priceline for nearly 45% off!

My wife and I stayed one night at the Yorktowne recently. I had stayed there several times on my own on business, 5 - 10 years ago. The streets of York are not the easiest to navigate, and after several tours around the downtown area, we finally found the valet entrance - I welcomed not having to worry about my car for awhile.
Check-in was smooth and friendly. Ray, the gentleman at the front desk was the model of efficiency and cheer. He truly made us feel welcome.
The room was a standard single king. We were fortunate enough to have a corner room, which afforded us 3 windows on 2 walls, making the room bright and airy. Small touches were noticed, such as sandwiching the blanket between two top sheets (having to touch hotel blankets is a pet peeve of mine). The only downside to the room was the TV - although a beautiful flat-screen, it was positioned to the side of the bed, so while lying in bed, only one of us could have a clear view.
The neighborood isn't great, but a big improvement from several years ago. It's hard to fault this hotel for it's location - it was built in 1925 - I'm sure the neighborhood was a bit nicer then! We walked a couple of blocks to an Irish pub, The Harp & Fiddle, a great place to eat. We did not eat in the hotel's restaurants, but enjoyed a drink from the lobby bar. The lobby is stately, and a great place to people-watch.
Checkout was just as smooth as check-in, and we were once again helped by Ray.
We were in the York area to tour several wineries, and the Yorktowne proved to be a great central location. The old furniture and odd angles are a refreshing change from the cookie-cutter roadside hotels.
