Today I returned from a wonderful and relaxing holiday at the Plevna Hotel in Sliema staying on half board.
I found everything to be first class. The food was excellent with a wonderful choice for breakfast that I only needed a sandwich at lunch time until the evening meal of which there was so much choice and all delicious and plentiful.
My room and bathroom were both kept wonderfully clean and the towels changed everyday. Okay they weren't the newest of towels but so what they did the job of dyring me and that was all I wanted. The bed and bedsheets couldn't have been better.
The staff were so good they could not do enough for me which I appreciated so much.
There were a mixture of age groups from families, young couples, students, single people and older couples and all seemed to be enjoying themselves.
Sliema is a little hilly so it may not be so suitable for people with walking difficulties.
Thank you Plevna staff for giving me such a wonderful and relaxing holiday and I can't wait to visit you again

Hotel Plevna is located in Sliema and is a short walk to many shops and restaurants. While there were a few things that seemed a little worn, this hotel was excellent value considering the incredibly low cost. Breakfast was included, and there were eggs, bacon, sausage, bread, tomatoes, fruit, yogurt, meat and cheese to choose from. While I hear what others are saying with regards to the slightly graying towels, they are clean and fine for drying you off. Again, you have to remember what you are paying. This is not a luxury hotel and my expectations were met. I would definitely stay here again!

We stayed at the Plevna for a week in the end of April - beginning of May 2008. This is a good time to go to Malta, because the weather is nice and the crowds of tourists aren't all that bad yet.
I agree with many of the previous reviews of Plevna, both the good and the bad ones. If you're expecting a northern-European three-star hotel, you might be disappointed. But if you're tolerant of small imperfections, realize that this is not very expensive accomodation, and decide to make the best of your stay, you'll be fine.
The we had a room with a balcony, which was supposed to be "landside view", but actually we could see quite a large chunk of sea. The hotel is not directly by the waterfront, so this was a positive surprise. The room was cleaned daily and the sheets were changed a couple times during the week. The towels were a bit grayish (probably from the water), but clean and changed daily. One of the beds was comfortable, but the other one was in serious need of replacement, as the springs in the mattress had given up. I guess we could have asked for it to be changed, but decided not to make a fuss about it. The shower had plenty of hot water, but unfortunately the spray was very weak at times, so washing long hair was a challenge. We didn't need air-conditioning or heating, so I don't know how well it would have worked. The walls were made of stone, so we couldn't hear anything from the next room. The door however, was not as sound-proof.
The worst problem we had with the room was that there was a very obvious mold problem in the bathroom. It smelled very strongly at times, and was also visible, but it was bearable as we kept the ventilation window open a lot.
Breakfast was fine, with enough choice for different tastes. Bread, cheese, eggs, bacon, yogurt, fruit, and so on. Some things did run out toward the end of breakfast service, but that's understandable. We didn't have lunch or dinner at the hotel, but the menus often looked interesting.
The rooftop terrace has potential, but for now it seems to be just a rooftop with sunchairs. Nice in the evenings, when the sun isn't as strong. The beach club opened a day before we left, so we didn't get to enjoy it much. The elevators were fine, and although they made funny sounds sometimes, I've seen much much worse. The building site outside didn't make as much sound as we feared, except during the last day of the stay. Otherwise the location of the hotel is very good, a couple of blocks away from the busy waterfront but still close to everything.
The staff was always helpful and friendly, no complaints there. I'm not sure if I'd stay at the Plevna again. I wouldn't rule it out completely, because what we got for the price we paid was definitely fair.

The hotel is in a good location, very close to the Sliema seafront and just a few minutes walk to the harbour, where you can take buses to almost anywhere on the island and also hop on the ferry over to Valletta. There are some decent restaurants in the area and also at St Julians, which is a good 20 walk along the sea front.
The rooms were on the small side and whilst we had a balcony from which you could see Valletta this was obscured by building work, and regulary covered in dust! The rooms were poorly cleaned, beds badly made and the towels were disgusting and must have dated back to the 70's.
Whilst the staff in general were quite helpful and friendly at least on reception, the hotel has an odd feel about it. Breakfast was bland and the breakfast room too small for the number of guests.
However the location suited us and as we don't spend much time in our hotel it was ok, but would I stay here again? No.
