I was a single person travelling alone for four nights looking for elegance sophistication luxury warmth good service and above all a bit of peace and tranquility. I am happy to say that I found everything that I was looking for. I am a owner of a five star b/b ( The Hideaway Swellendam) in South Africa and was looking for somewhere to go for a bit of a rest from my hectic life back here in South Africa. The hotel was beautiful, filled with antiques and beautiful drapes, it was certainly a Palazza. It is very difficult travelling alone but the staff were so warm and welcoming that I forgot that I was alone!! It is a very romantic place so if you are going for your honeymoon or a long weekend away I can definately recommend it. I choose bed and breakfast and my evening meal as it was easier for me to stay at the hotel than to go to town alone. The food that I received was delicious and to be honest the portions were abit too big for me, but none the less I ate it as it was so delicious.
So to end this review I would like to say a very big thank you to Mimo. Claudio, Giuseppe, and Paulo for making my stay a lovely one.
I would like to recommend this hotel as I certainly will be returning one day to this lovely place.

This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in. Breakfast was fantastic, the service was great and our room was lovely (even though we could only afford a cheap one looking out over the garden). Spent one afternoon playing pool listening to the pianist practice in the room next door. Can't wait to stay here again.

I have just come back from a very disappointing stay at the Hotel Las tronas . We were looking forward to spending our first two nights in the hotel to kick start our week long holiday in Sardinia .However I can safely say this hotel is over priced and over rated .
The rooms are small and tired looking especially considering this hotel has a five star rating .
The swimming pool is an ok area however I was surprised to find that the pool water is salt water . I was even more disappointed to find that the pool can not be accessed until 10.30 am each day . I would also definately avoid ordering any pool side snacks especially the toasted sandwiches for 25 euros per sandwich you would be better eating elsewhere as it is definately not filling.
On the second evening we has dinner in the hotel resturant . I was looking forward to dinining in the resturant as it did have a nice view over the sea and the menu looked nice . Once again we where left very disappointed the portions are very small and the menu is very limited . You also get the impression that the waiters are in a rush to get you in and out of the resturant as quickly as possible . The piano in the back ground is deafing and you can barely have a conversation over the noise .The bill for the resturant was over 200 euros and we had to stop of for a pizza on the way back to the hotel later that evening as we where still hungry .
All in all the I would say that this hotel is definately not five star standard but merley a three star hotel with an ok location chaging five star prices and definately worth a miss .

We had a good week with our one year old daughter in Villa Las Tronas in April 2008. As said before, the location within the sea is very romantic and quite. You feel that you are more in the Island Villa of a king than a hotel, furniture and rooms are in this stile which is nice for people who like to travel back in time. We had a big side room without terasse, which was just fine as we were happy to avoid after the day out the strong wind in this part of the beautiful island. Alghero is a nice little walk away, parking in the hotel is perfect.
On the other hand, we found the hotel a bit stiff, we prefer great hotels where the atmosphere is more relaxed and the rooms equiped fresher. The live classical music at dinner was a bit too loud (when it stopped one did hardly dare to speak, and when they played it was difficult to hear each other) and too austere. We had booked dinner, and also it was not bad, it was also not Italian food to write home about. Better was breakfast, which was absolutely perfect. Stuff was friendly, some very heartly, others less competent. The indoor pool seems since months under construction, and we guess that it will be like that a bit more. Our daughter liked the birds, frogs and fish in the parc, but we had to follow her everywhere afraid that she might fell into the sea. Internet, pool billard, a cute little bar - everythings is there.
But, what we missed was a lively atmosphere. Therefore we recommand the hotel for couples who like to look at each for length over dinner, for people who wants sea and wind and enthusiast of old furniture and facilities. We won't go back, as we love hotels also for the life in it - and that was for our taste too stiff and uniform, also our overall experience was really good at Villa Las Tronas.
