We stayed at the hotel this summer and really enjoyed the excellent food and pleasant atmosphere. The rooms are simple but complete, could use airco when hot (which was not the case this summer ;-(
Excellent departure site for discovering the castle region of the Loire valley. The kids loved it too.
Chinon is a lovely little town, at walking distance from hotel

Le Chinon is very similar to an American "Holiday Inn". It was very clean, had large rooms esp. for Europe, the staff was very helpful and all-in-all it was a great value. It would be a great place for families - there was even an indoor pool! From our room and balcony, we had an amazing view of the castle lit up at night across the river. It was however across the river from Chinon centre. The centre (with shops, resaurants, the castle etc.) was an easy 10 minute walk from the hotel. The hotel itself lacked the character that we expect from European hotels, but in exchange it did offer large rooms, good comfort and a regular parking lot for the car. If you are visiting Chinon the city, you may want to stay on the other side of the river, however if you are staying in Chinon as a jump off point for exploring the beautiful Loire Valley, or if you don't mind staying "off the beaten path", Le Chinon may work great!
