We booked one night half board at the chateau to finish off a week’s stay in France and I was really looking forward to it. The first dissapointment was the room. We had a room in the Orangery and it was very unappealing. The bathroom was nice with a separate toilet, but the bedroom itself was dull and not as I had expected for a Chateau. Therefore if you are considering booking, make sure you book a room in the main Chateau.
We had dinner that evening in the restaurant (half board option) and our choice of main course was limited to two main dishes, fish or chicken so ordering red wine raised the eyebrows of the waiter in a rather condesending manner. However, after having enjoyed a glass of champagne and a nice starter, our chicken dinner arrived and to my dismay, this was actually raw! Our table was booked for 8.30 and the restaurant had been busy, but I did expect my dinner to be cooked. The waitress exchanged the meal without any hesitation but by then (having had to wait another 20 mins) I didn’t really fancy it.
However, the chateau is in a beautiful position and the grounds are very nice to walk around and there is a lovely Cave just opposite with a delightful french gentleman and some lovely champagne. Maybe we were just unlucky but sadly we won’t return.

I booked one night in the chateau as a surprise for my girlfriend to finish off a long weekend in the champagne region and it lived up to all what I had read about the place.
Our room in the tower was full of character with creaky floors, antique furniture and a window overlooking the moat. The rooms have no TV, air conditioning or mini bars which was a definite plus.
Walking around the chateau and the grounds was like walking around your very own stately home complete with kitchen garden, ducks, swans and fountains. There were also bikes for guests to borrow, a boat to row round the moat in, table tennis and table football and chess in the lounge (with tapestries on the wall!)
As for the restaurant all I can say is that it was as good as any number of top end restaurants in London but with fixed price menus starting at 35 euros infinitely better value.
I recommend anyone paying a visit to the champagne region or just passing through to have a splurge and book at least one night here.

We had a lovely 4 day Easter break with my parents at the Chateau d'Etoges, and we can highly recommend it, We had one of the Prestige period rooms in the main chateau which enchanted us with its authentic faded grandeur, and my parents had a more modern very comfortable room in the Orangerie. Breakfast was copious with amongst other things fresh fruit juices, fresh fruit salad and freshly baked viennoiseries. All members of staff we had dealings with were always very helpful, courteous and cheerful. And last but not least we enjoyed the most glorious food every nigtht in the beautiful restaurant. All in all the perfect balance of comfort, service, and refinement to make it a real treat as well as a good base to explore this lovely region.

It has been a while since I stayed in this beautiful place. A firm favourite a few years ago. Still one of the most enchanting, elegant places on this earth....I was delighted to experience the new Orangery. Just forget about the cost and go wild. I spent my birthday here and they made it just wonderful, great staff and absolutely delicious food. One can still row round the moat, but be careful of a somewhat territorial swan. Please do not underestimate how "right" this place is on so many levels.
