Les Brises has a fabulous position a 20 min walk from the main tgown, overlooking the bay, sadly our room was at the other side overloking the garden! its a bit tired in places and the bar is extortionate but its clean and the bathroom was great.
for La Rochelle the price is average for what you get, so its fine for a stopover but i would look elsewhere for a longer stay.
we got a taxi into town (8 euro) but walked back, so its doable.

Belle La Rochelle

We only stopped two nights, it was a sort of `pit stop` whilst travelling around Europe. Checking in was prompt and hassle free. We were looked after by Katia ( I think) she had the most amazing smile referred to earlier and speaks perfect English, very welcome for those with just passable `O`Level French. A little pricier than other hotels in La Rochelle,I recommend a room with a sea view it was well worth the extra. A comfortable, even, 15/20 min walk from the town centre, either along the sea front or through some well manicured gardens (although it could well be tiring for the elderly and families with push chairs) the walk back after a stunning meal in the town centre was most welcome though. The rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable without being luxurious, the bathroom was quite adequate.(There`s no Sky/Cable TV which could be classed as a drawback by some) The breakfast was delightful, served by very polite and attentive staff and the view of the estuary from the dining room was quite stunning. It`s a pity it wasn`t quite warm enough to eat outside. There are no formal dining room/restaurent facilities so breakfast is the only meal served, hence the walk to town for our evening meal.Taxis are available. Secure (free) parking with 24 hour porterage for late the arrivals. No swimming pool, which is odd for a 3* hotel, but the beach is mid way between the hotel and town centre, a 10 minute walk. All in all a delightful family friendly place.
Great view, nice room

If staying at this hotel I would recommend you pay the small additional price for a sea view room. You are right on the water and the view is great. The room is quite nice, standard size for European hotels. It's nice to sit out on your private deck and relax for a moment. The staff were very friendly but they are not all able to communicate in english. Breakfast is too expensive for what you get - tea/coffee, oj, and 3 bread choices for 11 euros/person. It was probably a 15-20 minute walk into the main area of town with the restaurants on the water. We ate at Andre as recommended by the hotel and the food and service was good. One note - I didn't see any type of airconditioning, so not sure if the hotel rooms do have this.

We only stayed at this hotel for a couple of days but wish it had been longer. The main reason for this was the location of the hotel. It was right on the sea front and we paid an additional supplement for a sea view which was well worth the extra money. The view was incredible, overlooking the entrance to the port of La Rochelle on one side and to the other side you could see out across the Atlantic. At night you could have the doors to the balcony open and listen to the sea lapping against the shore. Although it was about a 20 minute walk to the centre of La Rochelle, this was perfectly manageable and very pleasant as was along the sea front. There were many hotels in the centre of La Rochelle but I didn't notice any with balconies and many only seemed to have a few windows overlooking the port. The hotel was very clean and the staff friendly. Our room had a safe and a small fridge which were both very useful. The room was a good size and had an inner door which you could shut to block out the noise from the corridor. Les Brises also benefited from an underground free car park. The only negative thing about this hotel was that there was no kettle in the room, fortunately, we had taken our own!!
