We booked this hotel only for one night on our way back to the UK. The room was fine, the gardens were very pleasant. However, the hotel is in a strange location in a housing estate and difficult to find. The room costs were on the high side, but not out of the ordinary for the quality. However, the restaurant! We considered eating dinner but the prices were eye watering. Even with a taxi to and from, eating at an excellent restaurant in the centre of Avignon was a much better deal. We had buffet breakfast on a Sunday morning. At 25 Euros a head, I can only desribe this as close to ridiculous. The only bread was stale baguette, bacon was uncooked bits of something that might have been meat, eggs were congealed, coffee was lukewarm, service was haphazard and almost rude.
Not a place I will visit again.

My son and I stayed at the Auberge de Cassagne for three nights in July. We had breakfast and dinner included in the price of our room. I thought that the hotel was charming, and that the food was excellent. Given that such good food was included in our package, I did not think that this hotel was overpriced. Our room was spacious with a lovely balcony. The scent of lavender was everywhere. We visited Avignon by taxi which, for us, was fine. The front desk also arranged a car and driver to take us to other towns. Since I was traveling with a seven year old boy, we definitely needed to have a pool, and also to have a hotel with a restaurant. It was also nice to have ping pong and boules. We loved it there. We are planning to return to this hotel at some point in the future, as we did not get to visit all the sights that we had hoped to.

We stayed in the Auberge de Cassagne as a base for exploration of the surrounding countryside of Provence. The hotel is located in the outskirts of Avignon and is a challenge to find. The French roads are not well marked and the directions the hotel provides are not very specific (for instance, "take this exit and look for our signs"). It is about a ten minute drive, more or less a straight shot, to the walled city of downtown Avignon.
For a base of exploration, the hotel was great. The rooms are nice and surround a quiet and pretty courtyard. The meals we had at the restaurant (dinner one night and breakfast each day) were excellent with great food and superb service.
However, there are some things to be aware of when considering this hotel. It is a real pain to park in or around the outside of the walled old city of Avignon. In fact, it is almost impossible to drive downtown. If the point of your trip is to concentrate on Avignon, take the train and then a taxi to a downtown hotel, don't mess with a rental car and don't stay in this hotel. Second, while the rooms were an appropriate price, the meals were extremely expensive. The dinner was great but 300 euros for 4 people. The breakfasts were excellent but 24 euro per person. $130(at today's exchange rate) is a lot for breakfast for four, no matter how great. There is a little cafe in town that you could drive to should you want to eat elsewhere for breakfast.
So all in all, the hotel was quite nice but be prepared for the price of the meals and the difficulty in going to downtown Aix before you decide to stay in this hotel.
