Stayed here Oct 1-3, 2007. It is a beautiful old 19th century chateau (read: big house that looks a lot like a victorian B&B in the U.S. would). The grounds are gorgeous, with about 8 or so grape vines in the front yard! The porch is nice to sit on, but be aware that it is also the place where all the smokers are, too. Some of the rooms were marked "no smoking." For the money, this place was great value (in comparison to some other places we stayed), and its location was good for sightseeing.
The breakfast was quite nice, and the room to eat it in was nice, too. Tall ceilings. The bar room is gorgeous. There is no general computer access (although their website states wireless access). Like so many places, the French bread was great. The other food was not particularly outstanding, but was fresh and good.
Like so many European hotels, there are no screens on the windows, so we had the problem of bugs coming in. There is also no air conditioning, and it was quite warm and somewhat humid during our stay. The room we were in was small, but did have a table and 2 chairs in it. No coffee pot, though.
The staff is very nice, and speak excellent English. The dog, Gyver, was a hoot. He is deaf, and seems to own the place. Got several pictures of him!
You have to haul your own bags at this 2-star hotel. Despite their website stating there is a large, flat-screen TV, there wasn't one in our room or that of some friends who were with us. There was a mini refrig bar (never used it).
All in all, I would definitely return to this place if I were going to be sightseeing in the Cognac region or around Angouleme.

We loved our stay here. We stayed as part of a Cycling holiday and rocked up at the end of a long, hot day...and were blown away by the first sight of the hotel. My husband, who hadn't seen the website, was particularly impressed.
We had a superior room, which I believe was worth the extra Euros. The room was a good size, and had lovely high ceilings and a big window. It wasn't posh but it was clean and welcoming.
But it was the rest of the hotel that we loved. The grounds are beautiful and incredibly peaceful. The pool (which we didn't use as it was too late for us) was beautiful, I was gutted not to have a swim. The staff were friendly and helpful and recommended a lovely restaurant in Cognac as their own restaurant was closed. There was a nice little sitting room, and bar, and seating on the veranda which people were resting on, looking like they were particularly chilled.
For me, it was an amazing opportunity to stay in such a lovely building, and at reasonable prices. I'd hugely recommend this hotel.

We haved just returned from a weeks traveling through France (by car). We stayed two nights at this hotel, we had not been advised on how small (very) the bedrooms were. The service was ok but then it is only rated as a two star hotel. We were also charged (by travel co.) an exorbitant price for the stay. We were not really impressed at all.

Thought previous reviews of the hotel to be very fair. Enjoyed eating in the restaurant on our first night thought the food was well balanced, also a lot of local people eating there as well which is usually a good sign.

A wonderful building in its own grounds, only five minutes drive from the centre of Cognac. The staff were friendly and helpful, the receptionist speaking good english. The superior room was well worth the small extra charge-large and airy with wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. Breakfast was good and dinner, served on the terrace was excellent.[We can highly recommend the pidgeon pie and the steak].
Our only criticism was the lack of air conditioning, but this is possibly reflected in the very reasonable room rates.
For anyone wishing to visit this beautiful area of France, we couldn't think of a better place to stay.
