This place is a must stay if you are in need of a hotel in the Avignon area. The hotel is located near all of the major sites (right behind the Popes Palace) and not too far from the central train station if you are doing day trips. The staff provided exceptional service throughout our entire stay.
Dinner at the Chef's table is a must!
If you are looking for a day trip to the many vineyards that surround the area, then have the staff make a reservation with Avignon Wine Tours. Francois provides an exceptional day trip to many of the vineyards nearby.

La Mirande is truly a hotel class of its own. Centrally located directly behind the Palais des Papes, this 700 year old building used to be home to Cardinals. This old town house retains its charm of old and is very tastefully decorated with fine art and has paid the most attention to detail.
The service rendered by the hotel is impeccable. Room service is prompt and house keeping really ensures a change of towels every time we left the hotel. They were the only hotel I have stayed in so far, to ensure that even my baby's milk bottle was washed and dried! Concierge and Reception were amazingly efficient and are very helpful with reservations and recommendations on where to dine. They know all their guests by name.
Our room was beautiful as the walls were lined in hand-painted cloth with pretty floral motifs. It has a luxurious antique feel although there are cleverly blended high-tech gadgetry in the room. For instance, The TV in the room is neatly hidden in the vanity mirror, so don't be alarmed if you do not see one when you enter. Also, all the lights can be dimmed to your liking. A representative from Reception will explain how to `operate' the room. The bathroom is spacious with two sinks available, a bath, a private toilet and separate shower area. The only concerned I had was poorly lighted closets.
We were fortunate to stay on a Tuesday where once a week, the chef holds a special dinner in the kitchen located in the basement. Each dish is served with wine and the chef prepares this amazing dinner with his guests.
Our stay here is one I will always remember for its charm, uniqueness and sheer beauty.

This hotel quickly became one of my favorite hotels in the world. It is charming, beautiful and boasts the best location in Avignon. The staff is amazing. The food in the restaurant, as another reviewer put it -- "out of this world". This hotel is also a cooking school so the incredible aromas from the restaurant and the school waft through the beautifully decorated rooms and salons. We had a suite decorated in country style but with every modern amenity. The bathroom was huge and the view of the Pope's Palace was extraordinary. You are literally just around the corner from the main square.
The garden in the hotel is so lovely and filled with a beautiful variety of garden and wild flowers. There is a rustic romance to it that just make you want to grab a glass of fabulous wine and curl up with a book in the sun. The salons boast beautiful art work, chandaliers and floral motif furnishings. Just lovely.
Breakfast is served ala cart or you can enjoy the buffet that features the freshest everything I have ever tasted!!! All local products -- wonderful.
Dinner reservations can be tough -- it is well, well worth the experience. Flawless service, beautiful room and a fantastic menu and wine list. They know how to make dining an experience!
If you get a chance to stay here, don't miss looking at the private chef's table in the lower level. You will find the hotel's boutique on this level too. Awesome!
This place is pure romance with flawless service and fantastic food. Do not miss it if you are in Avignon.

La Mirande is a spectacular hotel with all the service and personal touches that one expects at this rate. The rooms are not enormous but beautiful and very comfortable, the bathrooms are fantastic, the food is good, the gardens and public rooms are beautiful and welcoming. The location could not be better and both the friendliness and the food at the Table d'Hote night made a good meal into a great one. The staff were uniformly friendly and cooperative. All in all, a great place to stay that I would heartily recommend. I looked for the lamp that so disturbed one of the reviewers but found no light fixtures that were anything but nice and working.
