We found this hotel on the internet, and were really looking forward to the stay. Unfortunately we were greatly disappointed. The hotel: The website depicts the hotel as a real find, tucked away in the French Riviera. This isn't how we found it. It's right on the main commuter road through a small town. As such, some of the rooms (e.g the one we stayed in) were pretty noisy. The room: Although of a good size, it was looking very tired. It also shared a wall with the kitchen, so there was a **lot** of noise until pretty late at night. In defence of the hotel, they did discount the first night after we complained. However, this didn't really make up for the disturbed sleep, or the tired condition of the room.
All in all, we were glad to be in our way.

Booked this hotel through VFB holidays- it's cheaper than booking directly with the hotel.
My Wife and I stayed for 4 nights in this hotel in June.
You kinda of feel that this hotel has seen better days, it could be lovely, located in a small town some 20mins drive from Nice, set on a hillside with excellent views, is it full of charm. Rooms are in need of modernisation, paint is flaking, bathroom tiles cracked, shower screen mould - that type of thing.
The restaurant however is excellent, although not a huge choice, the quality of the food is very high, we booked half board through VFB which allows you choose anything from the menu with no additional cost - some items are very expensive!
I don't think that I would stay at this hotel again, not terrible, but not great.

We stayed here for 5 nights in July 2006 and had a comfortable bungalow room, which was really spacious, although ready for some refurbishment. There was no air-conditioning, although we understand that this is planned for future development. Nevertheless with the shutters closed but the windows open, the night air (in the hills) was sufficiently cool to allow a comfortable temperature during the night, without inviting half the insect population for a meal. There were a number of other residents staying there who had been before and this always indicates a good standard.
The restaurant serves really high quality food (haute cuisine) but is expensive, although the setting on the terrace above the pool is magical. This, in turn, makes it a favourite for wedding receptions at the weekends. We found better value and more entertainment in nearby Valbonne where there are numerous restaurants in the town square, popular with the local residents and visitors alike, with street entertainers to boot.
The pool was appreciated after negotiating the French roads and tourist spots in the heat and was the perfect place to relax. It is a good base for exploring the Cote d'Azur without having to stay in a big town amidst the fearsome traffic jams that can be found in places like NIce & St. Tropez.
For those who like to drive in exotic locations, try the corniche between Frejus and Cannes, designed the the Touring Club of France, it is a spectacular drive on the edge of the mountains and the sea, best completed in a on old Bugatti or a Ferrari, or even a Porsche 911.

My wife and I spent one night at the Colombier in November of 2003 as a jump off point for our return to the US. I had misplaced the directions and by the time we arrived from the Provence area via getting lost in Grasse and much traffic we were pretty strung out. What stands out in my memory is a desk clerk that really took care of our emotional needs as strangers in a strange land. Lots of little things added up to a big plus. She walked us all the way to our room upon check-in, when we expressed concern over where we should return the car at the Nice airport early the next morning since there were two terminals (separated by some distance) she made a telephone call to check and then made another when not satisfied with the quality of information she had been given, took us step by step on the best route to get out of the hotel early the next morning since some of the doors we might logically have gone out would be locked, got us reservations for dinner that night....was really simply helpful beyond any reasonable expectation. That is what we will remember. The hotel was nice and room quite acceptable although both were a bit past their prime. Dinner was excellent, again with careful attention to detail. How can it get any better than an experience when someone goes out of their way to be helpful and comforting, doing a job that is clearly much more than just a job.
