Have stayed at this hotel on three occasions, and absolutely loved it. However, we won't be returning unless they reconsider their policy of, unlike other hotels, not allowing guests to reserve a sea-view room. The idea that you can book months ahead and not be guaranteed a sea-view room (even at a supplement), while passing tourists who arrive on the spur of the moment and get there earlier than when your plane arrives would be entitled to a sea-view room, seems bizarre.
I think that the Bel-Air should reward their loyal clientele by agreeing to their requests for a sea view room if there is one available. We don't travel a distance to look out at the main road, (if we wanted to do that we could just stay in Barcelona) and if there is no sea view room available, we would be quite happy to postpone our booking until one was available, rather than have the lottery of whoever checks in first.
On previous occasions we could reserve the sea view room but this no longer seems to be the policy.
We miss the Bel Air, we miss the friendly staff, the fantastic position on the beach, the pool etc.

We just spent 2 nights at the Bel Air. The hotel is right on the beach, literally! We were greeted by the friendly staff. Our rooms were nice. We didn't get beach views but it was still great with the balcony to watch the main street out front of the hotel. The rooms had the most comfortable pillows, very large towels, house coats and slippers, free movies, free internet, free play station, turn down service, all the little things that make a stay feel like home away from home with a little special touch. Breakfast had a great many choices for both meat lovers and vegatarians. Overall, the stay was special. I felt very comfortable in this place. Great staff. Very personable. The area close to restaurants. We could walk for our dinner or shopping. Lots in the area and not too many people could speak english so we had to work on the little spanish we knew. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would love to stay here again in the future.

Just returned from 2 weeks at Hotel Bel Air. It's about 20 minutes outside the centre of Barcelona Spain (20 euros taxi to Placa de Catalunya). If you are not in a hurry there is an excellent bus system that runs past the hotel (1.2 euros to Placa de Catalunya) but it take about 60 minutes ( Bus L95) or the express 40 minutes (L96). The train is a little faster but it is 2 kms away.
The hotel is modern and has been recently refurbished. The rooms are an adequate size, clean and nicely decorated in a contempory style. Bed linen is only changed every 3 days(unless requested) but bath towels are big and fluffy and changed every day. There is a free open bar (spirits, juices, bottled water, sodas, coffee & tea) after breakfast till early evening depending on when they remember to close it. Breakfast buffet is average and not worth the 13 euros they charge. Restaurant closes in August but there are plenty of restaurants near by. Internet from the business center is free (only one computer though). In house movies are free. Limited selection in english. No iron, all pressing is charged at hotel rates.
The hotel is on the beach, ask for a room with a beach view. It is on the flight path of the airplanes landing at Barcelona international however there is an electronic shutter that blocks out almost all of the noise, but also the unobstructed view of the beach. The staff are very friendly and will try to satisfy all possible requests to make your stay more pleasant.
Pool is adequate, the beach is sandy but the water is not crystal clear. The town center is quaint and is next to the train station. It has supermarkets, restaurants and a laundromat which was closed in August. It has a university so lots of young people as well as families.
It is rated as a 4 star hotel which I think is fair except for the disappointing breakfast. At an average of 110 euros(internet price, not including breakfast) per double room it wasn't a bargain but for outside of Barcelona.
