Our room at the Brod was clean, functional and pleasantly scented. The free broadband internet in the room was a major advantage, as a work situation developed on the second day of my stay, and would have been much more difficult to resolve without this technical edge.
The Brod is an appealing option for those wishing to visit Sofia without spending a fortune on accomodation. Located in a very quiet suburb near several embassy residences, it is a good 15 minutes to city centre even when traffic is smooth. That said, until inflation drives Bulgarian taxi costs up to the level of other European capitals, the distance will not be a problem and you'll not spend more than 4 or 5 Euros each way to and from the Brod. Just get an OK Taxi leaflet from the airport and always remember to have someone phone a taxi for you from the hotel, or from restaurants or other locations in the centre.
The breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of hot and cold options as well as some local specialties; only rough moment was when a party in the restaurant became rowdy and the music could be heard very clearly even 4 floors up. The surrounding neighbourhood is quite dull but if you make it to the student area, you can eat Gyros for supper for less than 2 Euros each.

I stayed here with a party of 10 on a stag visit to sofia. When booking we were told it was in the city centre, It's not it's 15 minutes away by Taxi and close to nothing interesting apart from a student area with a few bars in. The hotel was clean but rooms spartan and a bit dreary. Having said that we were after cheap and we certainly got it. My compatriots being Scottish did their best to drink the city dry and were probably a hotels worst nightmare. The Brod took us in their stride and gave us no hassle. Sorry about the 4am naked run round the corridors guys. It is mostly coach parties staying there and although the young lady on reception was very pleasant and spoke english well, the bar staff were rather unfreindly. Breakfast was very limited. We did not eat in the resteraunt so cannot comment on the evening meals.
All in all, an ok hotel but next time I will be staying somewhere a bit more central and a bit more up market. Sofia itself was excellent, highly reccomend mohitas in the buddha Bar. Strip bars are either a total con ie $400 for a bottle of plonk that we didn't ask for and 4 burly bouncers to make sure we paid up or dismal affairs that were not worth going to. Two excellent nightclubs which go on till dawn and several small nightclubs with local music and superb atmosphere. Great place to go but if you walk into a bar with no customers, immediately turn round and walk back out again. You have been warned

Very good experience

Overall the experience was very good here. The hotel is clean and offers good value for money. The service was very good.. the rooms were clean and decent size. The receptionists could speak english fluently and guided us very well on where to go, called us taxis when we wanted etc. The breakfast was average and there was no room service available while we were there but the receptionist helped us order pizza when we wanted to eat.
The location is also good - its close enought oe verything and taxis are very cheap.
WOuld defintiely stay there again - altho sofia is a little boring.

We stayed twice at the hotel during our visit to Sofia. Once while touring Sofia ...and attending a CSKA / uafea cup match ...and also on the final night of our visit to Sofia. The rooms were very nice ...apartment with a lovely bathtub;)...the service was great . Very appreciated was the pre booking of a safe reasonably priced taxi to take us to the airport. We will defiantely stay here again when we return to sofia
