Good 'relatively cheap' hotel for Santander

I can reccomend this hotel. It offers a cheaper alternative to the very pricey hotels located in El Sardinero. It is located about 7km from El Sardinero but there is a very good bus service (the No. 2), the stop for which is about 5 minutes walk from the hotel. The rooms are adequate, clean and comfortable. Had breakfast a couple of times, quite greasy but plenty of food. There is a very nice beach (Playa Juan de Canal) within a 30 minute walk of the hotel - although it is definitely not the 2km that they say it is. There are a couple of nice restaurants near to the bus stop that are worth a try. English speakers should bring a phrase book, the staff speak very little English.

Stayed for three nights in what was described as a superior room. Our room was on the 2nd floor which was like staying in an Attic room with the sloping roof line (not suitable for people over 1.5 metres tall) and only a Velux window for natural light.. The bathroom was similar with no view and with little headroom over the toilet. All rooms have twin beds, ours were uncomfortable and found the room generally depressing but clean. The reception and restaurant staff were very pleasant and helpful but spoke little English. The hotel in my opinion has a below average 3 star rating and its location quite remote so a hire care is a must, the hotel is a good twenty minutes drive to the main beaches. I would recommend paying slightly more per night and opt for a 4 or 5 star hotel close to the excellent town and main beaches in Santander.
