I am a single staright male.I stayed for one night at a good price. SAN LORENZO is in a great central location. The walls are thin so you here noise if there is any. I stayed on monday night so it was ok. The only reason I would not like to stay again is that there is No Fire Escape and as smoking is permitted this adds to the danger. But its fine other than that with lovely honest helpful staff. I dont think a fire escape would cost much and then I feel it would be a great spot to base yourself for a few days.

I really enjoyed this hotel. It is very well located, near metro and sights. I was staying there alone, and a single room was 65 euro. My room was on the courtyard, so I had no noise problems. I stayed in other European cities on this trip for about the same prices, and this room was way nicer. It had TV, really nicely tiled bathroom with tub, elevator, and comfortable bed. I didn't have breakfast (available but not included) and some staff were nicer than others. Wifi and computer in the lobby as well.

The San Lorenzo is a 3* hotel located in a very good position just off the Gran Vía (close to the Sol area of Madrid). The hotel is served by a small but modern lift which goes from the ground floor lobby to all floors above. Reception is a spacious area on the first floor where maps, newspapers and mini-cards (offering discounts on local restaurants/attractions) are available together with a computer offering free internet access for guests. There is a breakfast/bar area to the side and a small luggage room which can be overlooked by reception staff at all times. Staff were friendly, helpful and spoke good English (as well as other languages).
We booked a double room but were given a triple which was a nice, light, good-sized room with plenty of cupboard/drawer space, TV (Spanish channels only) and a safe. The bathroom was small but clean and (looked) new. Towels were changed frequently. Our room overlooked the square and had two tiny balconies from which you could people-watch. (Note: even with the balcony doors locked, you could hear the noise from people in the square in the late evening/night – this went on especially late at weekends). A menu card detailing breakfasts offered at 3 and 5 euros (available 8am – 10am) seemed reasonable value though we did not try any of them.
The San Lorenzo is a little more expensive than our usual holiday accommodation and we felt that considering the small price of the breakfast this could have been included in the room rate, however as we needed a room for a few nights at short notice we were happy to pay the 85 euros + tax (per night) and felt the standard of the hotel warranted the cost.

This hotel was outstanding for the price. I stayed at the Hostel Lorenzo with my girlfriend for 5 nights in July 2007 and paid 390EUR. It was in an excellent location and easy walking distance to the city centre, tourist sights, restaurants and bars.
The room and en-suite bathroom were modern, exceptionally clean and a good size. The room also had air conditioning, a small TV and music available from a ceiling mounted speaker. The staff were very pleasant and the reception was manned 24/7.
The hotel breakfast was basic but good and was excellent value at 3.50EUR. There were also drinks available from a bar (of sorts) and a free internet terminal.
I am unsure why this place was termed as a hostel because I have stayed in far poorer “hotels”. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and I would definitely go back here if I was in Madrid again.
