Just back from La Renardiere which we used as a base to ski Villars for the week. Have stayed in several other hotels in Villars but this was the best experience to date. LR is family owned and the service is superb, very personalised, with the feeling of staying in a large family home. We had two interconnecting rooms which were a little small but very comfortable with some nice touches, and the bathrooms were brand new. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. The restaurant is quite expensive but the food was top notch - we are more used to traditional hearty fare after skiing all days but nevertheless enjoyed the a la carte menu each night. We liked the lack of formality in never signing a bill anywhere all week until leaving, all done very discreetly. From my experience this hotel would hold great appeal to the American market, the service and quality of food are as good as you could expect at this price in the Alps. Minor grumbles were lack of proper racking in ski room (our skis were bumped and scraped) and some of the approaches/driveway area were treacherous to walk on, a little more road salt would have helped - my wife managed to avoid any ski injuries but fell and hurt her back on the hotel driveway! You can ski to the back door of the hotel if conditions are good. We will definitely return, and anyone looking for a high class, intimate and peaceful ski break would be well advised to check out this hotel.
