My husband and I visited this gorgeous chateau back in June 2005 and I am still dreaming about it! The tourist office in Chateau-Neuf-du-Pape recommended it as we were looking to stay somewhere with a swimming pool. We were thrilled with it - its just so calm and peaceful there. Everything down to the bedding and the L'Occitane products in the bathroom was brilliant. I think its possibly one of THE most relaxing places I've ever stayed and I definitely want to go back there again sometime. The only downside for us was there is no bar there.

We stayed at Varenne for a week in high season. The location is superb, only a few minutes drive from Avignon, and is a good base for seeing the area. It is a family home, and you are made to feel like a house guest.
Our room was well furnished, comfortable, and had panoramic views towards Mt Ventoux.
The hotel features an outdoor pool which was nicely located in the extensive gardens.
Our only disappointment was breakfast which is described as "sumptuous". Well it wasn't! It was expensive at 16 euros, but frankly not much better than an average offering from the local cafe at 5-6 euros. They need to fix this.
Apart from that little gripe, and excellent base which I would use again.
Absolutely gorgeous!

We stayed here for 2 nights during our honey-moon and were more than happy! A 15 minute drive from the center of Avignon, a beautiful chateau in a quiet and wonderful garden. The owners are very friendly and helpfull (booked us a table in one of the gourmet-restaurants nearby) and the ambiance is very peacefull and relaxed. As we arrived without reservation we only got a small room under the roof but it was renovated with so much style that we spent a great time.
A few facts:
Real chateau-atmosphere
Newly renovated with lots of love and style
High quality beds
Generous breakfast terasse under old trees
Very friendly and helpfull staff
Own parking, so very safe
