We stayed at the l’Abbaye de Talloires for 3 nights in early June. We loved our stay here and are looking forward to returning. We had a deluxe room with a balcony view of the lake. It was the one pictured on their web site with the spear hanging from the wall. The hotel grounds are a delight with beautiful flowers and gardens. The hotel is quite a way outside of Annecy, and would not recommend staying here without a car. It is hard to describe the beauty of the area with the lake and the Alps.
We did not eat in the hotel restaurant since it is quite expensive, does not have a view, and had a menu that didn’t appeal to us. It was closed the first two nights, and we ate in La Charpenterie (another hotel in the village) the first night and had a great fresh fish dinner at a very reasonable price. We ate at the Cottages, which is next door and had a good dinner with a great view with average service for an expensive price. The hotel buffet breakfast was nothing special at all, and was not replenished when we were there. The downside to our room on the 3rd floor was that with no lift, it was up 45 stairs each time we went to the room. Overall the location and the quaint charms outweighed the other things.

Lovely old abbey renovated in all the right places. The setting on the lake is beautiful- we couldn't stop looking out the windows! Our room was smallish but comfortable with a newly renovated, well-stocked bathroom. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable about local restaurants (the hotel resto was closed for the off-season).
Only one small critique is the lack of sound-proofing between the rooms. This was not much of a problem since the hotel was nearly empty, but with near neighbors there might not be much privacy.

Just spent one night at L'Abbaye de Talloires for a special occasion. This hotel offers all the services you would expect from a 4 star hotel but there was nothing pretentious about the warm welcome we received. Our e-mails were answered promptly and in a friendly way.
Every single member of staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the food wonderful. Helpful sommelier recommended some really great wine from their huge wine list and, what's more, his suggestions were at reasonable prices.
Views from our room were fantastic across the Lake.
Bathroom modern, clean and with everything you would expect from a 4 star hotel, including bathrobes. (Make up mirror best ever found in a hotel.)
The bill was correctly and efficiently prepared on check-out. All members of staff spoke excellent english and put up with me trying out my rather hesitant french on them.
Compared to english 4 star hotels, we thought L'Abbaye de Talloires was good value for money.
Why not give it a try!

We just stayed here for 2 nights and were delighted. After contacting the hotel directly, their last offer was very interesting and definitely worth the price. (better than through internet sites!)
Location is right on the lake (very quiet) and even at this time of the season, one can sit by the lake and take lovely walks.
The reception personnel was extremely helpful and cordial. After checking out, we were invited to come back after a round of golf to use the spa and sauna. Golf and many other activities are free or cost very little when staying at several hotels in this area.
The Abbay is VERY special and a place to definitely stay.
The rooms are very comfortable.. excellent bed, very strong showers, separate toilets, quiet with an access only for hotel guests' cars.
Garden quite nice with interesting trees.
Other positive comments found on this site can be seconded.. right about the breakfast and eggs!!! The personnel in the dining area were so very cordial as well.
We dined at 2 other hotel restaurants in the village (preferred their daily menus at the time) and they were excellent!!)

Just returned from a 10 day trip with my wife to France. I was a little nervous about booking our trip in October but the weather was perfect and the fall foliage was beautiful. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend France during this time of year.
The highlight of this trip was definitely our two day stay at L’Abbaye. A very special place. We both agree that this is our new favorite Hotel. Although some may prefer a more flashy type of hotel, we found the combination of history, reserved luxury, remarkable location, and superb dining a great combination. This was during the low season and the fact that there were only a handful of other guests only added to the exclusive feel of the treatment we received from the staff.
Our room (#48 I believe) was one I will certainly request again. Maybe not as big as the others but it is a corner room so both bathroom and bedroom french doors open onto a private balcony over the garden while the bedroom window opens over the lake. A separate room for the toilet is nice. The sheets are great and the robes are soft and fluffy.
The food was especially good and the wines were well chosen. There is a sort of understated excellence to dining at the Abbaye. We felt that it made it a bit more romantic and personal.
So you don't get any surprises be aware that the prices are per person. Although I had originally planned on only one day at the Abbaye I felt that the best value was one of the two day package that includes dinner. If you aren’t planning on dinner elsewhere this seems to be a good value. However, budget in about 60 euros for the wine, which is otherwise excellent. On a side note the hotel went to the extent of contacting the sommelier (on his vacation) to confirm what wines we had been served the previous week after I had made an innocent enquiry the week after our stay.
I bought a case.
